Apprenticeships/OJT is the oldest form of training... not sure your serious with the who used them and when were they prevalent questions. In fact there was a time when it was all that was used...
Yes, on the job training, implying the person learning is being paid.

You claimed there was a time when "young men" could "enter industries for little to no pay simply to "learn the business""... I asked what companies/industries this was common in, because I'm pretty sure skilled labor = paid for at least the last hundred years. I didn't realize you were referring to the Middle Ages, which are totally relevant to the labor situation in the US today :aicmon:

We would agree if you formed your opinions from things in reality rather than increasingly goofy and baseless right wing talking points

Apprenticeships have always been paid, period. Internships enable young people to enter and learn an industry at next to no cost to employers, period. Pretty much everything you've said here is wrong, as usual.
:sas1: Quote where I said they were not paid?
I was very clear when u asked me what I was talking about.
Unregulated internships. Plain and simple.
:sas2:
I think the employer should be able to derive an immediate advantage for training those willing to learn.(number 4 on the list of no no's) and I think the free flowing nature of this service unrestricted by age and other nonsense is a net benefit to society, specifically the black community.

What exactly do you disagree with? :sas1:

Are you trying to say that access to human capital has not been diminished at all by minimum wage? or just trying to argue?

If you were talking about unregulated internships, why'd you switch to apprenticeships?

Again, can you break down exactly how regulations are making internships less beneficial? How would "deregulating" internships make them better?

For one, those outside of the age range could participate, which is a big deal IMO. Also allowing employers to benefit from this transfer of knowledge will increase its occurrence.

There are aren't any regulations on age limits for internships. And in any case, even if there were, that's not the issue. As you go lower and lower in age you hit a point of diminishing returns... companies don't have the resources to essentially have someone be full time watching over and teaching these kids. For younger kids you will see shyt like what one of the dudes in an organization I'm in does... he volunteers his time to run a robotics program team of elementary/middle school age kids, which is funded by various corporations and administered by organizations of volunteers who specialize in working with kids. The free market at work :obama:

in no way, shape, or form was it common for non slaves to agree to be paid little to nothing in order to learn the job. most men could not afford to stay afloat while spending hours doing things that dont buy bread, and unions were far stronger in the past, regulating the entry into various pools of labor. it was common to expect all jobs to pay during training instead of expecting people making near minimum wage to be expert excel users like it is today. furthermore, entry level work often paid enough to support at least one adult without welfare. try doing that now flipping burgers. typically, minorities and rural whites were relegated to perpetual low pay no matter which skills they gained, so what i am saying applied to urban and suburban whites primarily. we have never had equitable opportunities in the workplace, and probably wont in the future, but the nature of things will shift around a bit.

ironically, today is the time where more people work for free or incredibly cheaply. the internet has made access to virtual labor markets as easy as finding the right website to find desperate people outbidding each other, and paypal to avoid signing this labor to a tax form.

Maybe you can answer this.

Why is it the wage, and not the ever increasing cost of living, that is seen as the problem?

I'm thinking about selling my shyt. I owe 108k, had it reappraised a couple months ago and with the upgrades 230k. But the thing is, I sell where do I go? Bay Area is WAY too expensive. I'm not about to have 100K+ just sitting in the bank. I feel like I'm stuck in this hole at times smh

Why did you have it reappraisal done? Did you feel like paying more in taxes?

:heh:

If I were you if you and you are in a position to try and turn a portion if it into a rental. Perhaps even the basement. You can pay the 108k off in 5-10 years easy either way. Then try put together another 20% for a downpayment and buy another home say a multi family live in part rent the rest out while generating more income and paying your mortgage. With your old house turn it into a multi family if you can or rent it out if you can get decent rental income. 100k is gone in no time whether you buy a condo which will probably end up being worth less than the house you're in or on rent. Hold onto properties and rent it out and you'll be able to buy or rent where ever you want. Wash, rinse, repeat and you'll be a millionaire.

The reason for a REAPPRAISAL was for the Home Equity Line of Credit process. But I declined after second thought.

You also forgot about job automation that will kill off all unskilled and even many skilled labor jobs. :sas2:

Did you pay for the upgrades out of pocket? What did you do to see the appraisal jump so much?
