Sid had one of the best looks and mysic ever. He was just a badass enforcer and that went over well. Being tough was more better. The idea of guys being "good workers" didnt become popular until wrestling became more self aware

1995 was literally the only time Sid wasn't over no matter which company he was in. It happened to be at his all time worst shape, too. He came back from that awful heel run in 1995 back on full juice regimen in 1996 and got put over Vince's pet project within like 5 months because GOD DAMN PAL THAT'S THE LOOK. You can go back to his earliest days in WCW and even the smark crowds of Philly and NYC were flipping their shyt for him in the mid card as a tag guy or heavy for the Horsemen.

Shawn did him favor after favor and in the end, all Jose cared about was the money. They had a falling out because of it after Shawn hooked up Jose with a job at his wrestling academy in 1999. Not gonna speak ill of the dead so I'll leave it at that, but there's more to this story.

And the whole non-handshake thing was a work cooked up by Bret and Shawn. Bret wrote about that in his book and was corroborated by Shawn in their face to face DVD


Shawn extensively covered this in his interview with Vince Russo.

At around the 41-46 minute mark, Shawn admits here that his 1996 face run with the title did not work, and takes full responsibility for it. He says he could have and probably should have put his foot down but he didn't.

Part of the story line. Shawn was suppose to win cause Bret was taking time off. They made Bret look good by going an hour long and still put the belt on Shawn

Shawn and Bret worked themselves into a shoot by all accounts. They had a plan to work the locker room/sheets by acting like they didn’t like each other and being disrespectful. Shawn was probably going by that and Bret probably thought he was really shytting on him. Then as time went on Shawn would give Bret permission to bury him in interviews and got mad when Bret said something about his parents and vice versa.
