What was even the point of bringing Jose in? HBK was cool on his own at that time and then I see him bringing this old guy around and it just didn’t fit.

Yeah I always questioned that too. Really everything about his face run was terribly mishandled and it reminds me a lot of the failures of Roman's push in that it took everything that made him popular in the first place and stripped him of it and gave him some artificial personality that didn't fit and made him lame as fukk until fans turned on it.

Didn’t know this.

Either way he played a major role in one of my GOAT matches HBK vs Sycho Sid at SS later that year :wow:

Yeah, they were trying for the whole 'Rocky III' dynamic at Survivor Series with Shawn as Rocky, Jose as Mick, and Sid as Clubber, but they didn't quite get the reaction they were looking for as the crowd shyt on Shawn and cheered for Sid, LOL. That's one of my favorite Shawn matches just for the atmosphere in the Garden that night.

And how can you not LOL at this bump from Shawn..

Yeah in that double shoot they did after they patched things up Bret said that Shawn told Hebner to tell him to get the fu** out of the ring so he could have his moment. Bret was legit heated.

I believe Bret wanted to do something similar to Hogan and Warrior at WM6 where Hogan handed him the belt, they hug, Hogan raises Warriors hand and puts him over type of thing but Shawn was like fukk that, get him the fukk outta here, LOL.

Stuff like that is why Shawn, unlike any other wrestler, absolutely needs the WWE as a corporation to tell his legacy and he’s fortunate to be from an era where that can happen. Dude has bad blood with the majority of wrestlers he’s ever come across in his career

The NY/New England region absolutely LOVED Sid for whatever reason. Dude would always get insane pops & crowd reactions in that region of the country. I have no idea why either because he's not even from there :mjlol:

Michaels is my GOAT & favorite, but it truly is hilarous watching all these '95-96 videos of him and knowing he was "suppose" to be a face, and it was so clearly obv he was douche and scum irl

Shawn did him favor after favor and in the end, all Jose cared about was the money. They had a falling out because of it after Shawn hooked up Jose with a job at his wrestling academy in 1999. Not gonna speak ill of the dead so I'll leave it at that, but there's more to this story.

And the whole non-handshake thing was a work cooked up by Bret and Shawn. Bret wrote about that in his book and was corroborated by Shawn in their face to face DVD

Shawn extensively covered this in his interview with Vince Russo.

At around the 41-46 minute mark, Shawn admits here that his 1996 face run with the title did not work, and takes full responsibility for it. He says he could have and probably should have put his foot down but he didn't.

I thought it was well know Shawn hated the boyhood dream story. And I think it was in his book but Shawn said him and Jose weren't even that close, he only trained with him for a month or so.
