You cats are talking about the gansta landscape of that time, but Kanye went 4 times platinum in the same year

If I recall you are staunchly anti-Dipset. In that case you gotta sit this one out boss.

This was peak level dip set. If you wasn’t coming with that level of aggression or authenticity it wasn’t gonna hit. Kanye owes his entire career to rocafella bc they ‘sponsored’ him into the streets.

Also important at that time was the sound. College dropout had just dropped. Soul beats and chipmunk soul, samples, etc. Heatmakerz took that baton and was feeding the streets. Cams first single for purple haze at that same time was Down n Out prod by Kanye. You can’t go from that to ‘breath, stretch, shake’ :scust: That wasn’t what the culture was feelin

And funny how the universe works bc Kanye (and Pharrell) first placement in rap was on Harlem World

ironically enough he did work with kanye a few times during that era on a few obscure remixes and them shyts were fire, a kanye produced mase project around that time wouldve worked really well

Yep. Mase is an odd case. Like a street ball legend that inspired the stars. Kanye was a huge Mase fan. Fab a huge fan/disciple. Cam still talks about Mase like a rap legend (especially after Oracle :lolbron: ). And Pusha has done so many Mase homages to the point it ain’t really homage :patrice: Ngga be straight biting Mase on the low

The answer is simple, it would've been successful if he didn't make a PG album. All he had to do was get Just Blaze and Kanye to produce on there and he'd be a guarantee double platinum. Maybe have a Nelly and a 50 cent feature on the album and dude would've been right where he left off. :blessed:
