im guessing people didnt wanna hear a sanitized version of mase, plus the music wasnt all that to justify sitting through bumping a sanitized version of mase

then people probably had their reservations about him becoming a preacher then coming back to rap and how taboo that might be

this my shyt tho :wow:

Because Mase was a joke. Nobody took him serious anymore. shyt he even got clowned in random rap battles... Like.... Murda Mook? You're the biggest disgrace since Murda Mase.

This old video by Loon pretty much explains Mase. Son ain't murder a thing but a beat

From murda Mase to the preacher then back to the rapper. A lotta rappers were laughing at Mase back then. That album didn't do that well.

Him going gold is about right.

Mase being as big as he was in the 90s wasn't because of him, biggie's death, shiny suit era being at its peak, puffy remix wave, damn near every mainstream artist going at least plat in the late 90s, bad boy peaking ect.

Not saying Mase ain't dope but a lot of things were lined up perfect for him

2004 was late as hell to still be riding the coattails of 90s bad boy after that long ass break he lucky he even went gold

Mase dropped in the middle of Dipset’s reign. After diplomatic immunity, few months before Purple Haze. After all them Mase disses and with the movement and the music being so powerful Mase’ music sounded like pop trash in comparison.

Everybody welcoming this, welcoming that, he wasn’t welcome in the first place how we welcome him back :scusthov:

And Mase and Jim dropped the same day. On My Way to Church :damn: I remember we had a lil mini listening party for both at the dorm we didn’t even finish Mase album. Man turn that shyt off put Jimmy back on :ahh:

The game had moved on from Ma$e in 99 so by 2004 he really had no chance.

Think about how many iterations of rap we've seen since his peak in 97. DMX had changed the game in 98 so no one was with that shiny suit shyt anymore. The game went super street, then super commercial, down south was taking over, then you had the Roc/Dipset/G-unit. Where was Ma$e even going to fit in? His 2nd album was a dud, he finds God and comes back in 2004 but what does he have to offer really?
