Why is Vindictiveness and revenge looked down upon?

Especially when it's related to concepts like justice and retribution? Some argue that revenge is linked to emotions while justice is linked to logic. We all know that isn't the case especially with the murder of George Floyd and it's aftermath. I'm certain his family is an emotional wreck right now. If they wanted some get back by any means necessary then who is anyone to judge them and say that they are being cruel, emotional, unreasonable or illogical.

Vindictiveness/ vengeance is natural and it's an indication that someone has wronged you. Justice is about righting wrongs. So if an Avenger seeks revenge, why is it often looked down upon? Why isn't it synonymous with justice? Why does it carry negative connotations?

Problem with revenge is its selfish in nature and never look at the long term consequences.

The key is to seek RETRIBUTION. Retriburion is more selfless and it is done to make a better world for everyone else. The highest form of karma.

I think main the reason revenge is disparaged, is because the person ( or people) who wronged you don't want to deal with the consequences.

In other words..They Fear what you might do to them

Revenge feels like the sweetest thing next to p*ssy, but more often than not it will consume you, which makes you worse off, and you won’t get the gratification you are seeking even if you achieve what you set out to do to hurt the other person

Its 100% true that the best revenge is a life well lived - and I’m no preacher, I’m always plotting on my enemies I gotta keep reminding myself to let it go


BUT THAT SAID, there’s a huge difference between revenge and a reasonable reaction to an event

Protesting because the country is fukked up is GOOD AND NECESSARY

If you dont pushback, people gonna keep wronging you. Its just that there is a fine line between reasonable action and revenge. I guess you could decide depending on whether the action will improve your life or lead towards its improvement or not

Retribution and revenge are 2 totally different intentions altogether. Retribution is about what the opposing force done to others before you, and how you handle them for a bigger cause than yourself. Revenge is selfishness at its core, and willing to harm others that are innocent just to fulfill your urges of bloodlust.

'Unreasonable' and 'wrong' are subjective terms. Also, 'unreason' against 'unreason' leaves no room for rationality and engenders a 'might makes right' ideology.​
