Puff is in a category of 90's rappers and execs who were straight out of the streets and went right to the A list, with very little transition. Most of the guys who we revere have a similar amount of incidents, where they were charged, or whatever, and just ones that happened. Not including the abuse lawsuits.

how would it look through today's eyes, that Nas smashed a bottle on some guys head at a club around 2006?

Or that Jay and his boys beat down and stabbed Un?

Jay and Beyonce supporting Beanie Sigel, who clearly shot some dude in front of a strip club over almost nothing

Puff and Shyne and the club incident

NORE and his podcast, but remember the CNN/JM Hot 97 shootout?

There's lots of violence linked to all those guys from the 90's.

Other than the DV allegations, his victims are Black.

More of the same with Suge.

Rap (artists) in particular has always had a chummy bedfellow relationship with violence, gangsters, etc. across regions. Labels don’t care as long as it’s not their home/people etc.

Two instances with Puff being called out for lesser/victimless incidents - the Cristal owner’s comments /pouring it on women in videos and his line about “Asian women that’ll change his linen.”

Whatever happened wit that aubrey chick from danity kane

She was sayin some shyt bout him years ago too

I didn’t follow the fallout closely but there were strong Suggestions of romantic flings between them. With the girls and the other reality show auditioners, Puff was cruel, unnecessary, rude, degrading and she was a frequent target of his comments about weight or whatever he chose to speak on that day. Idk exactly what she said but she often was the only one standing up for herself back then. I know he ultimately disbanded them and kept D Woods and Dawn for Dirty Money.

Its a combination of that wonderful “No snitching” policy that the black community has enforced and fear of retaliation.

For instance Steve Stoute ain’t no gangsta, there’s no reason whatsoever why he shouldn’t have pressed charges for Puff barging into his office and assaulting him with a Champagne bottle. But because he was connected to Nas and testifying against him would have made Nas look bad by proxy and the rest of the street rappers he was dealing with, he let it go.

Cole, Drake, and Kid Cudi would have, in the Hip Hop world, looked like less than men if they would have pressed charges after the shyt Diddy pulled. BLOWING UP A MAN’S CAR because he was dating your EX girlfriend is the wildest shyt i’ve ever heard. Dude should have been investigated to the highest extent of the law. But because they didn’t want to look soft, they let it go.

Its a lot of “letting shyt go” when it comes to abusive tyrants who have power and status. Puffy at one point had the power to make or break people’s career.

the music industry has been Gd up since inception; it is what it is :manny:

Yeah... all them MFs have dirt on their hands and they all keep it low. Until it becomes something that's out of their hands or goes against them, all them big industry guys look out for each other and get their personal issues swept under the rug. This also includes people in other facets of entertainment. That's why I'm always surprised when people say Puff is a snake as if he's the only one. All those people at the top have horror stories attached to them that have either been forgotten or made to go away over time.

Clive Davis was watching his back and eventually he built himself a big enough machine that allowed him to watch his own back — to a degree

Clive was used to cleaning up messes and keeping unsightly things about his artists away from being exposed.

Even though a 19 year old Whitney Houston was already dabbling in drugs, she was still valuable as an artist with a generational voice. Clive and his people made sure the press didn’t find out about her growing drug addiction. And even after the whole world knew years later, it was Clive to the rescue to help her get “clean”

Puff was his new cash cow in the mid 90s aside from major work LA Reid and Babyface were putting in at the same time. And having Bad Boy under his umbrella meant he had a winning horse in the next big thing in music. So of course he made sure Puff was solid to a point where dude could still make major mistakes and be okay. Heck at one point Puffy was his biggest artist.
