Why is layering multiple samples together so uncommon these days?

i disagree, but if you mix 3 samples that doesn't restrict you from adding your own melodies anyways. still weak to sample the same part of the song cause 1. of course its gonna layer well cause like you said its the same key and 2. all the instruments and melodies are already made to sound good on a track together

i mean theres gotta be some instances where it's good enough to be excused but for the most part if i hear a producer sampled two parts of the same song on the track, especially if they try to make one part the main beat and the other part the chorus without even layering shyt (not accusin u of that or nothin), just makes me respect that shyt a lot less. if you wanna show your talent in sampling, and you aren't someone like jaydee who could find the best possible loop out of any given record, you gotta be layering shyt and it better not be the same damn song

thats just my 2 cents tho i dont make the rules

well, most cats who layer 2 different samples just layer extra samples that don't have chords in it and just 1 instrument playing in it.
That's why i prefer to make my own melodies instead of using 3 different songs.
It's all about the end result and i'm good this way.

Actually Petestrumentals was mostly older beats from the early 90s that were mixed into that project. Pete was using the s950 and SP during that time. The sound of those beats is completely in line with his vintage sound

Soul Survivor 2 is when he started with the MPC and you can notice the drop off in quality

I listened to Soul Survivor 2 yesterday. It's the best collection of beats I've heard outside of Moka Only in years. Play the Krumbsnatcha joint. Plat even the Talib joint. Kweli is awful, but that beat is pristine.
