As Paul Mooney said “Some-mo-nikkas.”
he is playing up his racial ambiguity. It's more money and being racially ambiguous than being black in Hollywood
Makes sense for him.
Most biracial people on TV are black/white (or sometimes black/East Asian). Even being mixed, actors like Shemar Moore, Boris Kodjoe, Tracy Ross etc., "look" black. They can't really pass for anything else.
Rock's got that black/Polynesian mix and most people wouldn't know what he was if they didn't already know his backstory.
Black/white mixes rarely look this ambiguous:
For all of you wondering why you never see The Rock with his father's side of the family, The Rock had a strained relationship with his father. He rarely saw his dad and the time they did have together was usually filled with drama. His parents fought often and his dad constantly cheated on his mom. She was even suicidal over it and The Rock took his mom's side. He resented his dad but still loved him. His dad was also hard on him as a kid. It caused a divide. His dad was the THE Rocky Johnson. He wanted his kid to be a star too. The Rock forgave him and now calls it tough love but back then they just weren't that close.
