Why is Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night rarely ever discussed as one of the best 90s albums ?

i remember one of the saddest things i ever witnessed live was camp lo getting no kinda love when they were brought out...i think it was for funk flex's car show..rick ross and jim jones were on the bill..they were a surprise guest i guess..it wasnt until the dj played the first few secs of luchini that the crowd reacted a little for a short time though....rap fan attention spans :smh:

:heh: That is a shame. I remember seeing something like that w/ Dres from Black Sheep when he was touring w/ Handsome Boy Modeling School. He dropped "And Then" from their second album, next to nobody recognized it and then Prince Paul had to cue up "The Choice Is Yours" for people to realize who he is.

Camp Lo has brought fire for years, their sheer consistency is crazy. Their joints w/ Pete Rock were just :whoo:

I thought that too when I first listened to the album for the first time when I was 14 , but now that I watched alot of Blaxpilation films over the years I realized that they got alot of their terminology from there .

But thats just it. I think for a lot of people Camp's obsession with the 70s all throughout the album was a bit corny, and devalues the album. After a few songs you're like enough already! It reduced them to a gimmick. A shame that a duo that talented just disappeared tho...and I agree that Luchini and Cooley High are two of the greatest hip hop songs of all time.

Possibly one of the most overlooked albums from that era. :banderas:

If they dropped in '95 or '96 they might have had a better shot, but they were in that awkward spot that was more underground than joints like , 'Life After Death', 'Harlem World' and 'Vol. 1' and they weren't marketed on that Rawkus/indie level, so they fell somewhere in the middle.

shyt - they were on Profile so a good deal of the blame could go to the record company being clueless. Wouldn't be the first time a record company messed up an artist. :yeshrug:
