Curious as to how they pull this off in Memphis considering the power grid is ass to the point that any gust of wind knocks out power to thousand of people for days on end.

Memphis people are going to pissed if the lights still on in that shyt while everyone’s is out and rightfully so.

Might use this as a chance to go back home though if I can get a gig there :patrice:

Let’s see if the people of Memphis complain about the jobs the facility creates

How many jobs do you think a supercomputing facility brings? It's mostly hardware that runs itself, we're not talking about thousands of assembly-line workers. A similar project in Atlanta only created 50 construction/installation jobs and 24 decent permanent jobs. And it's unlikely those jobs will even be hired from Memphis itself. And for that, the city is giving him a $10 million tax break.

The vast majority of Musk's spending will be on the tech and infrastructure. For the most part, the supercomputer will be automated and those working with it probably won't even have to go on-site.

On top of that, the facility is going to use an enormous amount of electricity and water, which will inevitably lead to shortages for everyone else. He's probably already negotiated a sweetheart deal on power and water prices too.

Monster facilities like semiconductor fabs and datacenters often have their own dedicated substations or will have their own power generation capability. I don't know if that's the case here. You're right though, that's something they better look at.

Forcing Austin’s hand on incentives and tax breaks. Oracle already announced they bailing on Austin for Nashville.

An operations center like this needs access to fresh water for cooling. Simple as that. Place is probably cheap AF for them to buy, getting all kinds of cash from city in process and right on the Mississippi river. Simple as that. :francis:
