Must be how we were conditioned but majority of our other African brothers and sisters are heritage first , African second. Rather that be Dominicans, Eritreans, Jamaicans , Nigerians don't even matter. AAs are the only ones who don't claim our land/ heritage first to differentiate.

In foreign black countries, everybody is virtually black so the reference point is or class. In America, African Americans are black first because of the fact African Americans are a minority and must more assiduously protect their culture/heritage. In Jamaica, Nigeria and Eritrea, blacks are the majority and black culture/heritage is the default, so blacks don't have to protect their culture/heritage as fastidiously, which lends them to prioritize other divisions (class). They bring this mindset over to the USA where it doesn't really work.

Maybe its because we lost connection to our ancestral heritage while Africans have not??? This is not taboo, this is common in populations who lose connections to their ancestral heritage. White Americans, South Africans, New Zealanders, Australians and Canadians go by "white" first, meanwhile people in Great Britain do not. They say their either English, Welsh, Scottish,etc,etc...

African Americans are an amalgamation of different west and central African tribes/ethnic groups plus a little bit of cac/Indian admixture. Your bloodlines are too scattered to form a meaningful ethnic identity rooted in ancestral lands. Plus African Americans are their own ethnicity, and they have their own history, culture and struggles. It's actually a very common problem for those whose families lived in the New world for more than a hundred years and where there was alot of migration from different parts if the world. Most Cacs don't know where there ancestors came from unless they take a DNA admixture test.
