Exactly what happened. It was on an exponential growth path and the bubble popped right before he sold them. In the past 3 years counterculture hipsters started rocking almost ironically and it came back in their world.

The story behind the name is its short for " a bathing ape in lukewarm water" which is an euphemism for japanese youth being lazy and wanting to look cool.
