Is the concept of outdated foreign to y’all?

I heard a Rhapsody song the other day where she sound exactly like Lauryn Hill
I understand that in order to be mainstream you have to try & do what Drake has been trying to do with his rap the past few years which has led to wack ass albums. Sure, if you want to be a puppet & get with the times for a try at mainstream success, go ahead. But to say Pun/DMX flow would be garbage today is a wack ass thing to say because it is a fake scenario that can’t possibly happen due to lack of ability to time travel :mjlol:

The rappers that’s hot rn
Ain't nobody hot right now but bytches who you talking about Ice Spice ? Sexy Red? Drake and them don't count they not from this era. What new artist in 2023 flow is better than Pun and DMX name names stand on it.

I didn’t say their flow is better I’m saying those flows are no longer relevant to the rap audience

This section of rap isn't doing that crazy right now. Honestly he's doing well for his lane.

The top of this lane in terms of popularity is probably JID, Westside Boogie, Joey Badass, and Vince Staples(1M+ monthly listeners).

He's slightly behind the likes of Symba, LaRussell, and Ray Vaughn who have had more opportunities(they're all in the 200-400k listeners a month range). He's ahead of Anoyd who is similar in terms of rap ability. I'm surprised that he's more popular on Spotify than Ransom and 38 Spesh.

:yeshrug: This is my first time hearing about bruh, and I don’t get how his flow is out dated. Y’all acting like bruh is rapping like he’s from the early 80s lol.
People simply don't want to deal with traditional flows/lyricism that actually takes skill-honing and hide behind "outdated".

I feel like he was simply born in the wrong era. Put him in the 90’s and he would have been a star but most people aren’t checking for any lyrical artists with actual content in 2023.

The flow doesn't help but I can't say that's the main reason. I think Grant missed his chance years ago. He needed to sign to Dreamville, TDE, someone like that with a brand to give him exposure and built-in features to get his name out there. He chose the wrong era to do this on his own and paid for it. Even the shyt the last few years where he was fukking around with Punch, letting that man waste his time with bullshyt...that wasn't the right move either. That entire "room full of mirrors" collective hasn't done shyt but rack up studio time. It's nothing more than a creative outlet for an exec who won't let his personal rap dreams die.

Am I saying he would have blown up on Dreamville or TDE? No. Same way Jon Connor wouldn't. But guys like that would have a better shot on a squad where you can get a Cole or Q/Kendrick verse to help sell your shyt. If wack ass Reason, the most generic rapper imaginable, can support himself on TDE then anyone can.

That hitting people over the head with bars is cool and it sounds good on Sway in the morning but you need songwriting to tie it all together and produce hits. 50 wasn't the greatest rapper I mean he was cool but where he shined was songwriting. 50 talks about how Game was a great rapper but didn't have good songwriting and he had to pen some songs for him here:

Songwriting is a lost art in the rap game today, where everyone just wants to autotune harmonize over trap beats.
