Uncertain grounds
Outside of Kobe, Ray Ray and Wade today's shooting guard makes no impact with actual shooting. The 90's you couldn't have been a legit contender if you didn't have a shooting guard that could actually shoot. I think John Starks was never a top ten SG during his playing days but I think he was very capable and worthy to start a team but he was never going to be a star a key player at best, today John Starks would arguably be the best or 2nd best SG in the league, because his shooting trumps what todays guards can do.

john starks is historically one of the worst gunners of all time. :wtf:

8 seasons he shot under 40%. never shot 40% from 3. he was a streak shooter who could occasionally drop a big game on you..but dont get it twisted, he would not be near the top of SG now

A few Floors Down from the Daily Grind
I don't think the positions in terrible shape, but the TS has a point. One of the only reasons that Afflalo is possibly a top 5 SG right now (Yeah I said it) is because of his efficiency and his D.

As others mentioned, too many tweeners, too many chuckers, too many slashers.

I want my SG to play good perimeter and transition defense, work through picks, move without the ball, understand proper spacing and have a 45-50% from the floor 38-45% from 3 and 80% from the line every season.

It's why Ray Allen will have a 25-30 minute a night job until his legs burn out.

Cats cant consistently shoot anymore, its either launch 3's or try to get fouled by driving..

Nobody works on they midrange anymore..I think the fact players nowadays are so athletic at the 2 actually hurts them in that they dont try to learn the fundamentals especially of shootign and the midrange game and just try to rely on physical ability and raw athleticism

Its sad to watch these shooting guards with their primitive skills and know Roy is sitting at home and cant do a damn thing at the age of 27. Look out for Allen Crabbe if he ever improves his confidence.

Basically, there aren't many shooting guards who can actually SHOOT right now. All of these cats named above shoot in the low 40%. In the 80's and 90's, SG's were at least hitting 46-50+% with regularity. We need good shooters back.

Bingo..

They are athletic, quick, and will throw down a dope dunk.

But how many Shooting Guards are Great shooters?

Your SG & SF should be the best shooters on your team

John Starks would be coming off of somebody's bench in today's NBA.

The best shooters are the SG and SF position, they just don't start because that's all they really do. The more athletic, better defenders, playmakers and rebounders start over these dudes because they're one trick ponies.
