Why don’t rappers let the listener know what year it is anymore?

"It's 88, time to set it straight, nam saying"

These "stop dating the music" takes from the producers are funny to me, like these songs aren't being streamed right now

honestly, it's probably best long term to not have a year in it may get you some replay down the line.

If we're being real, truly great music cannot be dated by a random reference.

Like no one is running Doggystyle back and thinking "Oh man, it mentions all these old things".
The beats & concepts are timeless and funny.
Above all they (Emcees and Producers) should've been concerned with making a classic.

Like no one will argue that Anita Baker's "Rapture" is dated because the music
was written, composed and delivered so well that if it came out TODAY people wouldn't
bat an eyelash.

shyt I do it all the time but I’ve heard A rapper say that they don’t want to date their music. His name escapes me right now but its understandable. I like to reminisce a little when I hear the song sometimes personally

Yep. they are being more streamed that a lot of microwave music of today.

Maybe today, they should talk about what hour it is, since that music disappear so quickly now.

it makes sense to want your music to be timeless., subject matter and all that. But these people too busy making albums about what my next thought process going to be. lol

For my people I appreciate it though.

if it goes super-fast, they going to be telling me to take a shower on record, depending how you look at it.
:comeon: Songs with year on it are not timeless?

I remember when Saigon dropped "Didundidunt" in like 2005, and at the end he's like "2010 bytch" and in my head I was like "Wow that's so far in the future"

Now that shyt was 12 years ago lmao
XV put out a song called 2015 in like 2009 or some shyt and was talking about flying cars and shyt :dead:

It's a back to the future reference but still at the time I said the same shyt to myself about how far in the future that was :flabbynsick:
