The simple answer is, yes; most Christians will not engage in any violence if Jesus/Christianity is attacked, but they do care. You might not understand or fail to grasp the magnitude of what their (the hardcore evangelicals) hot button issue is, and as a result underestimate their will and mistake their reticence for apathy.
They are laser-focused on fulfilling the end-time prophecies of the bible, which hinges primarily around the nation of Israel. When you truly understand this; the support for Trump, and the willingness to blow up everything to make this happen, will make more sense to you. You will also stop focusing on trivial issues like twitter beef and take note.
Just take a minute to think that the biggest block for Israel is white evangelicals from the bible belt. Most of them don't even give a shyt about Jews. Just look at the moves Pence and more importantly Pompeo are making. Are these the actions of people who don't care? They might not be as bombastic as the clerics in Iran for example, but they are every bit as determined and way better at what they do. When you have powerful guys at the very top fighting your battles for you under the guise of political diplomacy, why the hell should you be bothered over some clown on twitter mocking Jesus?
I actually don't even think a lot of Christians particularly align with Jesus's passivity any longer (another mistake we all make). A guy like Trump is more in step with them.
