200k-500k? 500k-1M? 1M>?

Whats the typical costs or budget for a major label release? Everything. Beats, Recording, Mastering & Pressing Up & Distributing. For an artist of Drake's or Kanye's caliber.

It can't be that much. I always wondered why cats like Jay-Z, Diddy or other super successful acts haven't just fronted the money for their own records (assuming they were between contracts). I understand its better to risk other people's money but, if you have the dough & you still hot, why not just do it on your own & take the lionshare of the profits?

Yea. I read about Peedi Crack & him blowing his budget on everything but music back in the day :steviej: He said his budget was around $800,000 & that was back in the early 2000s. Im sure costs have dropped along with music sales in this era. If most of these rappers can afford to drop that much on whips & jewelry, why not just distribute your own shyt. I'm talking specifically to artists who already sitting on millions upon millions. I dont get it. We all supposed to be hustlers right? :yeshrug:

my guess would be they just don't have the logistics (and also can't buy them) I mean you can't compete with some of these GIANT companies that own half of the world's showbiz

It threatens the system. That why cats who release dope music indepenently are either quickly signed up and placed in the system or they get media blitzed into the "indie-underground scene"

Even if a chick came out releasing Brittany Spears quality pop music but is not signed to a label she will never see Brittany Spears money or success.

The music industry is kinda like the Oil and Car industry.

Its like "yeah we kno there are cheaper and more resourcefull alternatives which will benefit the common good"

"But that shyt aint making US no money :yeshrug:"

THAT WOULD MEAN BLACKS WILL ACTUALLY HAVE MANUFACTURER TO GET THEIR MUSIC PUT OUT

WE KNOW THAT CANT HAPPEN BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN WE DONT HAVE TO DO BUSINESS WITH JEWS

AND WE KNOW THATS NOT GONNA HAPPEN

THAT WHY I SAID THE WHOLE JAYZ 500 MILLION DOLLAR shyt IS A FRONT

I think it's simple, they don't want to play with their own money, the way many business people raise investments instead of putting up their own money for a new venture

but when it comes to physical CDs I think you guys are right about the distribution issue. The labels all have relationships with the stores, radio stations etc so a new player will have to build that kinda thing and practice over a few years

So its kinda like that dude who was developing electric cars in his basement in the 1950s, only to be never heard from again afterwards :mjpls:

shyt is just wild to me. It's no reason why Jay-Z or cats of his stature aren't releasing their own shyt. You worth $400 million b.......it cant possibly be that difficult to press & distribute your own shyt to the stores :stopitslime: The only excuses I can think of is........like you said, there's some billionaire in the background leaning on nikkas if they even think of cutting them out or some of the Big 4 must own a minority stake or have serious influence with the major retailers and Apple.

mac miller is doing it right...

shocking... young jewish guy knows how to handle business

Miller is signed to Rostrum, which has a distribution deal with Fontana Distribution, which falls under Universal Music Group umbrella.

And besides all of Miller's promo is internet based. You rarely see the kid on TV.

Yup the Big 4 pretty much run everything.

Universal
SONY
EMI
Warner

EVERY single artist in the game that we know of right now falls under one of those umbrellas.
