The modern action movies were new back then. They’re old now...

This. They weren't doing those type of movies in the 60s and 70s like they were in the 80s and 90s. They started getting stale and now you got superhero movies that have filled that void. Who knows what's going to take superhero movies place when the awe where's off.

Yes, i distinctly remember toys being sold for rated r movies and all sorts of merchandise being geared torwards kids for movies that never do that today, like judge dredd and total recall. Imagine seeing commercials for John Wick action figures today.
