My friend, even though MLK didn't hurt anybody, he wasn't docile, pacifist, or non threatening at all.

Ponder that for a moment my brother :jawalrus:

MLK does not get enough props. People think you have to preach violence or resistance to win. That's bullshiit. The man is dependent on the same damn dollar everyone else is. MLK knew this and that's how the bus boycott changed things. And a part that less people know is that before his death he was not only goin hard on the Vietnam war (again threatening the money makin war machine), but he was also goin hard on economic inequalities in general. He was trying to organize all kinds of homeless people to go to Washington DC and protest economic inequality. That kinda thought right there is a REAL threat to this system cuz pretty soon the lower and even middle class would start questioning their place in society. MLK was planning Occupy Wallstreet back in the 60's yo. That's why I believe they got him. Not just cuz he was trying help black folks. Turn the other cheek or not, he was a real threat to the system.

I think people misunderstand the nature of turning the other cheek in general too. what he, gandhi etc were talking about was nonviolent political resistance not a general philosophy. ( though of course MLK also had that Christianity infused 'love them' thing going on too )

come to think of it most of malcolm's points about non-passive resistance were about action in the middle of conflict too (they're beating you and you're just gonna sit?) and not about a general eruption

in general all these people (garvey booker t malcolm mlk etc) had far more complex and changing philosophies than the simple contrasts allow for

garvey was really bout it. he was talking about supporting black businesses and going back to africa, not integration. thats why he built with the kkk because they had the same goal--segregation of whites and blacks.

but people gotta understand america is never going to willingly let the negro go. it needs the negro. which is why any black leader who preaches segregation will always be marginalized.

go back to africa? lol shame on you if you think the white man is allowing that :beli:

One of the reasons is because a large portion of the Black middle class at the time hated him, so he didn't have the institutional support from the "Black Elite". He was not able to use the media and other outlets to work around this problem like other Black groups/leaders would later on. I think if media had played a larger part in society at the time he would be given more credit today. One of the main factors in Malcolm X being popular especially among young people is that his recorded speeches are easily accessible in a wide variety of formats.

This.

Yea I never understood why people shyt on MLK so quickly. White people only really know him by the 'mountaintop' speech and some quotables here and there. That's like the equivalent of knowing about Nas, after hearing 'You Owe Me'. If you read his books, Martin seemed to have a grandmaster plan that was just beginning to take fruition around the time of his death and as far as the American shadow gov't is concerned, he was a major threat to society as a whole for a reason, the success of that Montgomery Boycott had major impact on the local economy.
