Why doesn't DC have any iconic original black heroes?

I've been thinking that since Milestone is coming back, it will be the final nail in the coffin of Cyborg's failed push.

They're not even pretending that he was a founding member of the Justice League anymore. The most recent issue had Grayson meeting the team as a kid with Martian Manhunter in the lineup.

Obviously he'll be in Doom Patrol and Teen Titans Go, but I definitely don't expect another solo run anytime soon.

DC should give me the keys for him. My Cyborg pitch would be :fire:.

Static could have been but Warner Bros/DC have been shooting for the same demo in all of their movies, except for Wonder Woman, the Harley movie, and maybe Shazam.

I think DC has the advantage of hitting more demos that Marvel. They have a lot of heros/side kicks that are young. I was hoping with the success of the Marvel Spider-Man movies they'd push their younger heros too and have a person to fill in the shoes of the heros instead of recasting them.

Static and Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle could be teen minority heros with an audience like Miles got from the animated movie.
I don't think DC/WB could've done anything with Static (aside from the already in place deal to have him appear in Young Justice) because of the legal fight that was going on for the past few years with Milestone and Dwayne McDuffie's wife.

I'd argue the order is

Black Lightning
Cyborg
Terrific

Stewart

Stewart should be #1. And Terrific ideally should be #2... if not p4p #1 as a non-legacy type originally concept (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Buuuuut yknow how it is with white ppl..

Marvel isn't much better in execution. A lot of luck with Bendis adopting Luke Cage and creating Miles Morales.

Dr Voodoo, Blue Marvel, Spectrum, Storm, Bishop, Cloak, Nightrasher, Prowler, etc criminally underutilized.

Tho I guess you can argue they (Marvel) have a greater number of known ones within comic circles... without getting too obscure

Mr Terrific is a legacy character. The OG Mr. Terrific was a white dude who was a member of the original Justice Society.

I didn't know there was an ongoing legal battle.
