Why doesn't DC have any iconic original black heroes?

i dont consider storm to be iconic, but if she is, then so is cyborg.

BP only became iconic through the movies, and as we all know, DC struggles more when it comes to movies, so they are not nearly as likely to succeed at making a black character iconic through films.

:russ:

Cyborg is popular due to Teen Titans Go now if anything. If someone were to say name the X-Men, Storm's name would come up pretty damn soon. Asked to do the same with the Justice League and Cyborg aint getting mentioned near the top if at all.

DC is all about tokenism, and that's why iconic characters don't exist in the lineup.

I'd state more, if there was more to say, but if they're not in a legacy they have an origin tied into how god-fearing whites see negroes.

I would love to be corrected on this, if there's examples of black characters that actually are underutilized and can be made iconic.

DC's top black superheroes at the moment are:

GL John Stewart
Cyborg
Mr. Terrific
Black Lightning

They seemed to be interested in giving Vixen that push for a brief moment but that seems to have ended. And I couldn't tell you what Steel is up to.

Black Panther is still a top dog in the Marvel comics universe and Miles Morales still gets shine but Marvel hasn't been pushing Luke Cage like they used to when Bendis was still there so he's not a major player anymore and honestly Storm hasn't been A level in a while either. They have made her a supporting character who really hasn't done much for a couple years now in the X-Men books.
Falcon has lost a bit of his heat too from when he was the New Captain America, leading The Avengers and at the forefront of event series.

Last I checked wasn’t Storm in the BP comics as well?

Nobody cared about black panther before the movie.

Storm is known but she ain't a popping like that no more.

None of the milestone characters are known like that besides static.

In addition to cyborg and John stewart, you could say Amanda waller as well.

Depending on how you feel about Black Adam being black, he might be next.

Static could have been but Warner Bros/DC have been shooting for the same demo in all of their movies, except for Wonder Woman, the Harley movie, and maybe Shazam.

I think DC has the advantage of hitting more demos that Marvel. They have a lot of heros/side kicks that are young. I was hoping with the success of the Marvel Spider-Man movies they'd push their younger heros too and have a person to fill in the shoes of the heros instead of recasting them.

Static and Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle could be teen minority heros with an audience like Miles got from the animated movie.
