This notion the BP was carried by production is bulletpoint Number 1 of hate lol

the album is one of the most quoted albums ever. to be one of the most quoted albums ever means your lyrics have to be kind of good lol
I wouldn’t say that but I don’t think production carried blueprint. I feel like it was overall just plain good. Blueprint had a lot of commercial sounding joints “nikka that nikka, hola hovito, etc” so I’m not expecting Jay to spit lyrical miracle lyrics over these tracks. People hating on BP1 are crazy. Album was beyond 🔥

One of the best rap albums, sonically, ever made imo, I love this record musically. Jayz’s lyrics weren’t on 10 on this joint, that’s the only fake little knock I had about the album…other than that I love it throughout. Sometimes it’s a smart move, musically, to dial down the lyrics to fit the song/beat, you can’t get super lyrical on everything, that’s the problem with a lot of rappers, nigs can rap but don’t know how to make records.

Nas my GOAT, but never thought Blueprint was trash.
One or 2 songs I didn't care for.
I even copped the CD and the MTV Unplugged version with The Roots playing the instruments.
That's how much I enjoyed the album.

I've posted in this thread before so idk if I'm reiterating points I've already made...

BP1 is obviously a classic, but where I have problems is when I see rankings with it as the best album all time (da fukk?), or even as a top 15 album. It does NOT hold the same weight as classics that are pillars of the genre (36 Chambers, The Chronic, Doggystyle, OB4CL, etc.). It's a whole lower tier than those albums, b/c any one of those albums could be considered the #1 all time album.

BP1 is also not better than Reasonable Doubt...no fukking chance. The lyrics were dumbed down, and the flow more elementary on BP1. RD is easily a top 10-15 all time album. Also, I'll take Vol. 1 over BP1 any day. BP1 just too commercial and poppy.

BP1 also has some songs that are carried by production (Girls Girls Girls is fukking lame minus the beat, Hola Hovito), or songs that are just corny sounding now (H to the Izzo sounds like bubble gum pop). Jigga That nikka :camby: Don't let nostalgia fool you into thinking these songs are still dope to this day.

I don't :manny:

I love soul samples in hip-hop, and was always in awe when Just Blaze, Kanye, and Bink! would give their best efforts.
