Why does the Coli pretend Big Boi is on Andre 3000's level?

I'm telling you....it's mainly the voice and delivery.

That's it. That's what really separates the 2. Non-Southern rap fans find Andre's rapping more accessible than Antwan's on average.

People say it's because Andre has more substance but Big Boi has plenty of songs both in and out of Outkast that are introspective and personal. He just balances it out with the player and flashy talk. They both have moments of them snapping on verses and Big Boi is actually better at double time flow than Andre by a mile.

The real reason Andre is seen as much better is because his delivery and flow is much smoother and easier to digest than Big Boi's. Big Boi is from Savannah and still has a thick accent and drawl. Andre's from Atlanta and has a more neutral sounding accent. Andre's flow and style was also more influential to rappers like Kendrick, JID, EarthGang, etc. compared to Big Boi who has a much more limited influence.

Also, Andre has more of a unique persona due to his fashion choices and he stood out as the "quirky" one in Outkast when he started singing and experimenting with genres on Stankonia and The Love Below. Then, Andre cemented this further with the Class of 3000 soundtrack and now the flute album.

Big Boi also experiments with R&B, Funk, Indie Rock, and even Techno but he's much more sublime with it and Big Boi's whole persona is being a pimp/player unlike Andre which a lot of hipster types resent as an image. Hence, they're less likely to give him props and more likely to label him as a "stereotypical" rapper who only raps about bytches and other vain stuff.

Yep, you see it.

no one in this thread listened to his last album

1. False. It was just aight. He's a pensioner at this point and he has nothing left to "prove*". Unlike...

2. I bet you haven't listened to Andre's flute album. What does that have to do with anything? :mjlol:

*He also has nothing left to "prove" regarding his abilities. He just hasn't shown it on his own with a solo album as evidence. And based on "The Love Below" and the flute album, I'm shooting him a lot of bail :francis:

3K has better writing, smoother flow, better voice (personal preference).

Big Boi is great, but anyone tryna put him above is just mad because 3K went MIA when he should have been feeding us albums. Which I understand.

Better writing: debatable, and feeds into that trope of "Big Boi only writes about chains and 'lacs as opposed to Andre who writing about this more elevated shyt". Not saying that's what you're saying explicitly but it's in the same vein.

Smoother flow/better voice: won't hold you on that, comes down to personal preference. On the flow I'd actually agree with you

Personally, I'd place Big Boi slightly above Andre in an overall ranking because they were equal symbiotic and inseparable parts of OutKast, Big had the better half of the double LP, and his first solo album is an excellent album in the tradition of OutKast and Dungeon Family, and I'd rank that slightly above Andre ripping a few features post OutKast.

Now if you disagree and believe it's the opposite (Andre being slightly above Big Boi) then no harm no foul. That ain't my issue, arguments either way are cool

It's the "Big Boi can't hold a candle to Andre" or "Andre in a different tier" nikkas that are way off :russ:

I think some people prefer Big Boi’s subject matter. Had more edge and street than 3K

He was extremely talented but did not sustain consistency over the years it is what it is whether it’s lack of drive, work ethic chasing other avenues or writer’s block.

There are some narratives that have just stuck in Hip Hop that really make zero sense if you’re not a casual.

Andre being on the Jay/Nas level, while Big Boi just “okay” is one of them. It just never made any sense to me.

Thinking Andre is better is fine. Thinking Andre is a top 5 rapper ever and Big Boi is an honorable mention in top 50 lists is where nikkas lose me.
