Why does the Coli pretend Big Boi is on Andre 3000's level?

i disagree. love these songs tho Dont hold it against you for thinking the way you do either

And that's the thing, on very few songs will I say, "oh this one destroyed the other". Now, me being an OutKast fan, I'll be the first to admit Andre smoked Big Boi's boots on Royal Flush.

Vast majority of the time though, especially on their best work, if Andre was ahead, Big was right behind him. If Big was ahead, Andre was keeping pace. I'll even admit, it depends on my mood of the day who I'm feeling more. So you feeling different on some songs is cool.

But, how can a duo like that be separated into different tiers? How is that not casual talk?

I'm telling you....it's mainly the voice and delivery.

That's it. That's what really separates the 2. Non-Southern rap fans find Andre's rapping more accessible than Antwan's on average.

People say it's because Andre has more substance but Big Boi has plenty of songs both in and out of Outkast that are introspective and personal. He just balances it out with the player and flashy talk. They both have moments of them snapping on verses and Big Boi is actually better at double time flow than Andre by a mile.

The real reason Andre is seen as much better is because his delivery and flow is much smoother and easier to digest than Big Boi's. Big Boi is from Savannah and still has a thick accent and drawl. Andre's from Atlanta and has a more neutral sounding accent. Andre's flow and style was also more influential to rappers like Kendrick, JID, EarthGang, etc. compared to Big Boi who has a much more limited influence.

Also, Andre has more of a unique persona due to his fashion choices and he stood out as the "quirky" one in Outkast when he started singing and experimenting with genres on Stankonia and The Love Below. Then, Andre cemented this further with the Class of 3000 soundtrack and now the flute album.

Big Boi also experiments with R&B, Funk, Indie Rock, and even Techno but he's much more sublime with it and Big Boi's whole persona is being a pimp/player unlike Andre which a lot of hipster types resent as an image. Hence, they're less likely to give him props and more likely to label him as a "stereotypical" rapper who only raps about bytches and other vain stuff.

And the musical talent.
In terms of singing? Sure. Big Boi sings too but Andre's the better singer.

But, as a whole, nah. I can't co-sign this.

Each of Big Boi's projects actually differ greatly from each other and show good musicianship.

Sir Lucious has the Dungeon Family influence with lots of Funk and R&B. Vicious Lies had a strong Indie Rock influenced mixed in with 2000's inspired Southern rap. Big Grams was straight up a Rap/Indie Rock hybrid project. Boomiverse was a mix of Detroit/Chicago House with 2010's Trap music. And the Sleepy Brown album was a good combo of Sleepy's style and Big Boi's style.

That's 5 projects where Antwan did something different from the previous album and has influences from different genres. Ironically, this was the type of rap career people expected Andre to have after Outkast fell back.

They were neck and neck on the 1st 2 albums. Aquemini is where Dre took that leap, and took bigger swings with his pen, which is ironically when the casuals started taking real notice of them. Around that time Dre was killin everything. BUT Big Boi passed him again as Dre got weirder and weirder.

Dre had a higher peak for a couple of years, but sheer longevity and skills, Big Boi passed him.

Don’t listen to these people. Bigboi has a legit solo rap career yet people only bring him up to try to shyt on Dre. I just laugh at it all.
This where im at with it, I prerfer Andre. Big Boi has the catalog that people cry about Andre not having and they rarely if ever discuss it at all.

3K has better writing, smoother flow, better voice (personal preference).

Big Boi is great, but anyone tryna put him above is just mad because 3K went MIA when he should have been feeding us albums. Which I understand.
