Speaking of Big Herk, the group he used to be in (Rock Bottom) dropped their debut in 97 and came out the gate with more of a mobb sound and tempo...

... But 3 years later in 2000, their tempo got sped up and they sounded like this:

Now where have I heard that rhyhthm before...

@NormanConnors i fukk with Detroit rap but c’mon son this ain’t the hill to die on :usure:

Some people forget or don't know that the Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, St. Louis & New Orleans are all Black cousin cities. It has to do with the Great Migration and in turn the hustle game.

Great Migration (African-American) - Wikipedia

It's a big chance a hustler in one of those cities has a connection to another one of those cities in some way. Heck, most Black people from those cities have close kin in more than one of those other cities.

https://www.biography.com/people/felix-mitchell-487984
Felix Wayne Mitchell Jr. was born on August 23, 1954, a product of Oakland, California's 69th Street Projects. After dropping out of high school, Mitchell strove to pull himself out of poverty. Using his natural affinity for networking and organization, he assembled a backing crew of notorious criminals and dubbed them the "69 Mob;" the acronym "m.o.b." stood for the phrase "my other brother." Using the strength of this new association, he connected himself to drug suppliers, runners and dealers throughout California and Detroit, Michigan.

Them having the same sound is exactly like how Memphis & New Orleans music is extremely similar. It's all tied together.

are you sure you've listened to their entire catalog instead of select tracks:comeon:. Besides that there isnt much of a overall difference in the Rock Bottom tracks you posted sound wise. You can maintain a certain sound while using different tempos.

Detroit
Cash money dominated the streets for literally a decade. That Detroit hustling sound was not around at the same time as cash money and first started showing up 3-5 years after cash money blew up in 99. They had a direct influence on the production whether or not it’s admitted

Esham was on that wave in the late 80's :sas2:again like I said mixed bag

detroit is the origin. the question is when did california starting biting us :leostare:
The origin of what, exactly?

I really dont recall Detroit rappers coming out here, yet Bay Area rappers where all over Detroit.

Matter of fact, I bet there more BAY artists that get love in play in Detroit, than Detroit artists, get love and play in the Bay..:yeshrug:

That's a lie in 2019. Bay Area be slapping Detroit rappers more than their own artists. Thizzler just had Detroit artists in their year end bay area cyphers.

My breh.

Bay Are rap been popping since late 80's early 90's.

For the time the only rappers to really POP was Mc Breed, Kid Rock and Esham.

The Bay Area already had platinum artists by that time..

Prior to THOSE rappers, where did this 'origin' come in at you speak of.

Niccas been touring the chitlin circut with Detroit on the itinerary.

Lets be honest.

Detroit didnt get on the map till Eminem.

Start there...

Detroit rap has gone through their own renaissance of sorts over this past decade, and their music is popular around the entire country, but especially in the bay area. They listen to our artists but at this point, damn near everyone in the bay listens to FMB DZ, Sada, Peezy, Payroll, Icewear, Allstar JR, Drego & Beno... They're more consistent, active, and making better music right now.

As of right now, Detroit is a damn powerhouse.

Im not debating this.

Im asking about the 'orgin' you speak on and when The Bay Area start "biting" because, my point is the Bay was cracking before Detroit had a mainstream voice..
