Why do you think breaking nfl all time statistical records doesn’t come with the same fanfare as other sports?

The All Time leading rusher record is the most prestigious record in the NFL and comes with fanfare

You must be very young
Yup. I remember here in Dallas when Emmitt got the record. Everyone had a little water in their eyes.

His wife got him the cleanest azz Lamborghini in Cowboys Blue with a white interior :whoo: . Not sure Deuce-Deuce was into exotics like that but even he had to smile when he saw it.

QB records don't mean shyt because the game has been adjusted too much to accommodate them.

Emmitt and Jerry's records will be damn near impossible for anyone to break because you gotta be elite for a long time AND avoid injuries.

Ain't no one breaking Krause's interception record (81). If guys like Deion, Ed Reed, Revis, Champ, Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Darrell Green etc., couldn't do it....it's not getting done, especially in this era. You gotta have hands like DaRon or Trevon but be "just bad" enough that people keep throwing at you.

Sacks...same shyt. Most would have given JJ Watt a shot at Bruce Smith or even Reggie White...but again, these dudes get too banged up to last long enough. Plus most QBs can run and OL gets to hold ALL DAY (just ask Micah, TJ or Myles).

Michael Strahan breaking the sack record felt like a big deal in real time :manny:

I didn't even know a Steelers player broke Strahan record until a few years after the fact :mjlol:

Alot of single season records are untouchable in many sports except really nfl

No nhler player is scoring 93 goals in a season
No Nba player is avg 50.5 points a game
No mlb player is hitting 74 home runs or no pitcher is getting 60 wins

Brooklyn
Bruce Smith 200 sacks
Reggie white 198

Next in third place is Kevin Greene at 160

TJ watt has 108 and he's already thirty

You can average 15 sacks for 10 years and still be 50 behind
You can average 12 touchdowns a year for 15 years and still be 17 back of Jerry. Moss & TO are 2nd and 3rd but they’re 41 and 44 touchdowns back of him :dead:

You can average 120 catches a year for 12 years and still be 120 away from breaking the record. Larry Fitzgerald played 17 years and had the best hands of any receiver I’ve ever seen and he finished about 120 catches away :mjlol:

You can average 1300 receiving yards per year for 15 years and you’d still be nearly 3400 yards back of Jerry :deadrose:

Don’t sleep on the home run or RBI start that Aaron Judge is on

I remember emmit breaking was a big deal

The thing is alot of these NFL records all time are just crazy

Look at Bruce Smith Sack record

If anyone comes close it will have great fanfare, same with Jerry Rice receiving yards or receptions but those even with the added game look unbreakable.

Passing no one cares anymore because of inflated stats and the added game
This is a contradiction. So ppl care about the receiving record being broken, but they shouldnt care about the passing records because of rules changes, as if WRs dont benefit from them just as much??

Randy Moss was :flabbynsick: or at least a role player by 32-34 while Jerry was an all pro on the league’s best offense which went to another Super Bowl at 40 :mindblown:

NFL is a single season sport. Every RB who reached 2000 was a big deal
Manning break Marinos record was hugeFaulk breaking Emmitt, Priest breaking Faulk, Alexander breaking him and LT breaking him. Strahan breaking the sack record was huge, Bradys 50th to Moss for his 23rd, was huge. Calvin breaking Rices receiving record was huge, too.

the oldest wr in the nfl last year was 34, next oldest 32

only two wrs over 30 had over 1,000 yards last year. Davante adams with 1,063 and mike evans with 1,004

I agree with this.

The all-time NFL records would definitely get attention, but some seem almost impossible due to rule changes. However, there is also the aspect that the NFL has changed the amount of games played over the course of time, so even if someone sets a record now, there will certainly be comparisons to ones set in shorter seasons.

I think the single season records in the NFL get more attention than all-time records in many cases. Yeah, it would be awesome to see someone break the all-time rushing record, but I'd rather see someone rush for 2,500 yards.:wow:.

Receiving, rushing and sacks records get the most fanfare. The passing records have gotten broken a number of times in the last couple of years so they've lost their spark and rule changes have made passing easier.

But even the Strahan's sack record gets a 'well actually' from some fans and Mark Gastineau's wig.
