Why do you think breaking nfl all time statistical records doesn’t come with the same fanfare as other sports?

Sound sound sound

The old people announcing tried to force it into being a super important headline…but nobody cares :russ:

Even if it’s from the most decorated athlete in the most prestigious position

Individual stats don’t really hit in the NFL like that anymore..people just want their team to win

So if someone breaks that it’s gonna come with the same hype as LeBron breaking Kareem’s scoring record?

You don’t seriously believe that :dead:
After the way they acted about Saquon threatening the single season record and considering how special a player would have to be to do it, I think so. If he is a Cowboy forget about it. Joker or Tim Duncan breaking the record in OKC doesn't get the same hype has Bron doing it as a Laker and replacing a Laker.

The All Time leading rusher record is the most prestigious record in the NFL and comes with fanfare

You must be very young

While I agree wouldn't you say they we're only now coming out of a years long campaign to discredit and demean the running back position? If not for Bijan and Gibbs proving a lot of people wrong we'd likely still be in that environment. Hard for a RB to get into record breaking convos when, until very recently, RB debates settled on running guys into the ground for 3-4 years and then drafting another one on day three of the draft.

Point being that so much NFL discourse is driven by (white) nerds attempting to turn every conversation into a "value" debate where entire positions get dropped down the totem pole while the importance of QBs gets increased more and more. That creates an environment where only QB records/stats matter.

They're random numbers. Do you care that Brady has 89, 214 yards?

Plus, only four players have 500 TDs, for example.

We also only pretend that the Super Bowls matter when the NFL is over 100 years old. The Eagles, for example, are just as old as the Steelers and have been better longer if you go back 100 years. The Steelers were awful until the late 1960s.

I remember emmit breaking was a big deal

The thing is alot of these NFL records all time are just crazy

Look at Bruce Smith Sack record

If anyone comes close it will have great fanfare, same with Jerry Rice receiving yards or receptions but those even with the added game look unbreakable.

Passing no one cares anymore because of inflated stats and the added game

I don't care what you think

I'm telling you what I know

I watched Walter Payton break the record

I saw Kareem break the record

There was fanfare for BOTH equally

I'm older than you

There is an entire generation of men that have memorized Payton's rushing total. It was the most prestigious record in football. Emmit breaking it was huge (not the least of which is because a Cowboy holding that record is pure sacrilege :scust:).

Dude must be a youngin'. Only reason that record isn't mentioned like that nowadays is because it's seen as untouchable with how RBs were devalued over the years. But with Saquon restoring the feeling, maybe that will change.

Like when Hank Aaron beat Ruth’s record to become the all time home run leader it was a classic moment in sports. People at the time will tell you I remember what I was doing when that happened. Same thing when Lebron passed Kareem, or even now Ovechkin passing Gretzky in Goals scorer.

When nfl records of longevity are broken it’s kinda like

:manny: Especially compared to other sports.

No one is gonna remember what they were doing or where they were when Bron passed Kareem.
