and mess them all up?

inbetweeners usa is horrible, one of the worst tv shows ive watched in a while, yet the English version is hilarious and borderline classic.

same goes for...

skins
life on mars
The IT crowd
top gear

all the above are way inferior to the english originals, so the question is why do they remake these english shows? especially seeing as the original english version is nearly always better

The same reason anything is probably remade, people in Hollywood see an existing property that is successful someone else and think maybe it can work here. Like you said more often than not it fails, but you might get something that is a success like The Office.

American networks cant come up with good ideas anymore so they see whats hot overseas and try to copy it to get same great ratings. Main problem is that television overseas have less restrictions so stories with over the top scenarios can be done properly but here in the usa we got punk ass guidelines to follow so the product gets waterdown as a result.

Another reason is that instead of copying a show exactly like it is america tends to add stuff to the product to make it look like its original but it just make it worse. Its like putting clown makeup on a prostitute... In the end the prostitute is still a prostitute but just looks silly.

:wtf:

I've never heard of any of those shows, either version. Step your TV game up.

Yeah, the best remakes have been Shameless and The Office. TG USA is solid. Easily better than Top Gear Aus was. Skins and Inbetweeners are especially awful because they're remaking shyt for the MTV audience, which is infinitely more juvenile than the source material's target audience.

Didn't even know their was a U.S. IT Crowd.

....then he's not the one who needs to step his TV game up, breh.

The US IT Crowd never made it to air.

Had Joel McHale and Richard Ayodane.

They're remaking Misfits

but why not just import the english version to usa :mindblown: ?? no one new is making money because all the remakes are done by the same people that are making the originals

:comeon::stopitslime::rudy:

Let's not act like they haven't remade our shows, like That '70s Show or Good Times or Married... with Children.

And a lot of OUR classic shows were remade from (sometimes forgotten) British shows, like Three's Company or All in the Family.

:stop:

I haven't seen Inbetweeners, but Skins' problem was NOT that it was remade for the MTV audience. Its problem was that its early episodes were shot-for-shot remakes of the original series one episodes but with worse acting. And I'd also argue that MTV's audience isn't any more or less juvenile than the original target audience, but the US version of Skins did get hampered by our more strict standards and practices that doesn't really allow such a graphic display of teen sexuality.

I will say, though, that the later episodes of Skins got a little better, and they started going their own way and even improving some of the original scripts. "Sidney (Series One)," my favorite episode of all six series of the original Skins, was remade for the US episode "Stanley," and the US version did it BETTER.
