Why do people say J Cole makes boring music?

I like Forest Hill Drive but his latest album was an actual chore to sit and listen through & I only did so cause Im a student of rap. There's something about his last album that completely lacked a sense of urgency and vitality that I can easily find in projects from truly great rappers. I think its related to his beat selection and boring ass rapping cadence on so many of the songs)
And reading various hip hop personalities over the years try to compare this man to Nas makes me angry, its not a comparison he deserves or warrants AT ALL.

You know, his music is pretty boring and his mixtapes were better than his albums but people I know in real life really fukk with Cole. I just say I don't listen to him.

He's not boring at all. It's just a highly popular opinion on the internet that a lot of people co-sign just to fit in. There aren't 5 better rappers out right now than cool from the new school.

I don't even like dude like that. Sure he's made corny songs, but so has everyone. Dude has a great fan base that consistently buys his work and he's laid back. You don't seem him riding waves or being an attention whore. It's all bars.

fukk it, I'll say it...he's the new Nas to me...sick as shyt lyrically, but his beats and fukk it, his flow over those beats don't mesh well.

Put Cole over say...a Justice League production...and he'd have classics for days.
