I don't understand the importance, if you don't need it to do the career you want.

College is overrated.
I have just as much respect for someone who goes to college and becomes an engineer, as I do for someone who goes to a trade school to be an electrician.

Do what you are interested in.
Besides, what you love today might change tomorrow anyway. But the tens of thousands of dollars of debt that college can bring doesn't get erased so easily.

whether you go to learn or not, knowledge and connections are essential. college is one way to get them. and having a degree increases the likelihood of having a higher standard of living for you and the people you produce (if you choose to do so). yeah, it's overrated and expensive as hell :why: but it doesn't define a person. a lot of people tell me that it's an investment you make to prove that you can actually finish something and that you deserve all them zeroes.

but if you can do you without it, then you're winning. fukk people that want to hate/judge your life like that. it is better to go in the long run though, i believe.

Because our system has forced college upon us as the main way to make money and its getting worse as they demand more degrees for jobs that you used to be able to do without one.

College/higher education is extremely important and we should never forget this. Sadly the institution has morphed from a place of learning and development to corporate research labs that happen to house students for ever increasing fees.
important for what? ive done fine without it

OP's grammar, particularly in thread titles, leads me to believe he could've used some more education.

I don't understand the importance, if you don't need it to do the career you want.

As in ANY career?
  • College won't make you rich or well off
  • You don't need college to be rich or well off
  • You can become filthy rich without college
Now, with that said. Don't fool yourself into thinking you can get into any career you want without going through some sort of post high school education such as a college, university and other types of institution. Those that do are very very few and far between.

How many lawyers, doctors, pilots, scientists do you know that didn't attend college. I bet very very few. Sure there are some engineering fields and other careers you can do well in without ever going to school but slow down with that any career you want talk if thats what you mean.

Remember this: For every Jay-Z who made it big without an education there are BILLIONS of others who are impoverished due to LACK OF.
