This is a recent post on Reddit. 1000+ upvotes, 600+ comments. Posting his mug shot. Calling him a Rapist.

These are the same people saying "Kobe isn't top 10"....that "no one ever seriously had Kobe in the GOAT convo"....that "Kobe is only ranked high because he died".

99.9999% of the irrational hatred and disrespect that Kobe receives is because of the rape case. Cacs view him no differently than Michael Vick.

The moment that white woman put those charges on him it shattered white America’s ideals of Kobe as the next Jordan they could prop up. He was pretty much tossed to the shadow realm after that and it didn’t help that he was viewed as a “snitch” for speaking on Shaq’s business at a time when Shaq was universally beloved.

The fact he was able to bounce back the way he did was through sheer force of will and talent. Its testament that he was able to get back some respect.

Not sure what circles you're moving in but Kobe is loved by people of all colors all over the world. This was true even before his death but after he died it became a new level of respect and legendary status. Even people who don't follow basketball know about Kobe and mamba mentality.

It doesn't mean there won't be haters and racists trying to discredit him and it doesn't mean people can't poke fun at him for being an all time bricklayer in addition to being one of the greatest players ever.
