Why do people hate TLJ so much?

There are really two main reasons people hate it -

1. They don't like the direction they went in with Luke's character, especially since he's so different than he was in the OG trilogy
2. They feel hate that Snoke was killed off so quickly without even getting a backstory


There are also some alt-right types with their SJW rhetoric, but they hate any movie with a significant number of characters that aren't white guys so I don't take those complaints too seriously.

Biggest problem with the movie is the most uninteresting characters have the spotlight. I’d watch a whole movie with Poe and Holdo

-They being sent to get the guy but bring a different guy, I wouldn’t bring a different guy just like that.


Also they made it a effort to try and make u think who was truthful.

When what’s his name called the lady in blue a traitor and had her sent away cuz he thought her plan was just to dip, why the fukk didn’t she say we are going to leave but we are going to a safe planet??? (The plan)..Instead she stays quite and he later finds out when he awakens in one of the pods and is like ok, this is good.

This has been answered in multiple threads on our site and myriad of times on other websites. Everyone has their own reasons. Some fanboys can see how the flawed this film is and forgive it while others cant. Even fewer are the ones who can ignore the flaws entirely.

One common argument is that this film doesn't answer anything from TFA. Again some people love it for that while others hate it. Personally I think most if not all the Star Wars movies are bad films whether it be poorly made or written (I believe ESB is a legitimately great film). These films saving graces have been their characters and universe itself.

Watching TLJ, it felt like the writer/director was trying to erase the lore and rewrite preexisting characters. TFA gave me that same impression. It looks like that was the goal based on these after debut interviews. Lol these two new Star Wars films might as well be in two different franchises. If you're replacing a beloved universe's compelling lore and characters, you have to replace it with compelling lore characters.

I think you're being a little melodramatic breh. I do agree though that the hate on this film could alter the future success of the franchise. I mean they're still going to make millions with future episodes and pass as blockbusters. However, that revenue will gradually decline as evident by the 77% drop currently being reported with TLJ.

Not really, because if they can not reverse engineer the profitability of star wars.

It is the biggest betrayal of the greatest film drawing blockbuster franchise in history. As they just destroyed the rubrick to blockbuster film draws at the matrix. That it will never recover from proposed spreadshyt profitability ever again.

It is the worst thing to happen in film history.
Nuffin will ever be the same and nuffin will ever draw largely again.
Giving way to the computer digital romance era. Which will as a result destroy the actual draw for quality products till the end of time.

It's kind of fascinating to see unfold.

Well in fan circles anyway. The only difference is the critics and media are completely in full blown stan defense mode of tlj and they attacked BVS.

I liked the prequels and feel they answered all the questions posed in lore and legend completely. We even got the origin on annakin too.

For me:

- This and TFA were already praised and declared superior films than the prequels befoe either of them even dropped, and neither has topped the best movie of the prequels.

- The treatment of Luke Skywalker is far more egregious than the treatment of Darth Vader in the treatments. The inept and convenient way they portrayed him to elevate Rey is ridiculous.

- TLJ provided the single WORST scene in the entire series with Leia -_-

- Jar Jar Finn got him a Jar Jar Rose.

- Snoke

- Phasma

- Akbar

- Feminist and statement-making narrative drive.

- Not sure if Rian Johnson even saw TFA

- THE. fukkIN. SLOW. ASS. CHASE. SCENE. Did them nikkas really chase them and have a worse explanation for it than getting a copy of "Spaceballs: The Movie"?


It's bad writing, when they had an actual history of beloved characters that the prequels didn't, and made this such a shyt show of bad writing. This movie is the reason why it takes at least 3 years to get a movie up after the previous one.

dude bet it all on his nephew, saw that going left, contemplated a power move, but as a result had that nephew slaughter all his students and leave him for dead. That's the type of tramautic event that changes a character, especially years down the line when they naturally become .
