The thing is when you feel the sheer water chill in the vast deepness of the ocean, your legs are only going to tread so far. Its not like being in a pool you literally fighting for your life out there. You have to have some sort of endurance training.

If that ship sinking you may as well put on an extra captain's hat and salute cause you're going down singing if you not on a life boat. Better pray you go insane and wash up next to a big booty bish shaped like a volleyball until you pass away.

Thread made me look it up and there was a man who swam across the Atlantic Ocean, from Massachusetts to France

He obviously had help, a boat with crew, food, bed etc on there and swam a total of 8 hrs or so daily but still

They had some electric field or something to make sharks fall back

Took him 73 days but he did it back in 98

In 2018 he tried to do the Pacific, got about 1/3 of the way from Japan to San Fran but the boat had a problem and they had to get to Hawaii before they ran outta fuel or something.

He planned on swimming thru a large part of The Pacific that had a lot of plastic and garbage in general that’s supposedly wider than 2 whole states of Texas side by side

Tell people you know nothing of how vastly different open water is to coastal, and controlled water environments (pools) without telling them brehs. Unless you're a top 1% swimmer, you have no chance of surviving in the open water.

Sometimes its just about being able to survive long enough to get to a floating object or for help to get to you. Lets say you fall overboard but someone throws you a life preserver. It might be several hundred feet away from you so you would have to swim to it which could save your life. It you couldnt swim you would drown right away. There are plenty of instances where people survived in the open ocean cause they knew how to swim.

sounds like my story of boot camp in the Marine Corps.

they threw me off a 10 ftplatform for a week for swim qual. I sunk to the bottom every single time. on the last day they told me they just passing me but I should probably sign up for some swim classes when I get stationed.

I also lived on a ship for 7 months and worked on the flight deck. every night i’d worry imma fall down a bomb shoot
