Why do people claim QBs are gonna refuse to play for a bad team?

It seems like every year there is a horrible team that picks first and people be like the consensus number one is gonna refuse to play there and go back to school but it doesn’t happen.

Like remember when people said Joe burrow wasn’t gonna play for the bengals cause they sucked? Or Trevor with the Jags? :russ:

Baker mayfield and Matt Stafford went to 0-16 teams no complains but apparently dudes are gonna turn down a team that goes 3-14:mjlol:

My Pops Forever RIP
Cause Elway and Eli did it
and it paid off.

On top of that, the player empowerment era allows players to do this without much pushback.

Honestly, for the NFL it's mostly just stupid ass talking point banter because we can't comprehend that bad teams need talent and they tend to start with the QB. When NBA talking points start seeping into the NFL, it makes NFL discussion horrible. I saw a take a while back from Paul Pierce where he was like "Lamar Jackson can't take the next step until he leaves Baltimore for a bigger market." Makes me wanna turn the channel to MLB Network and leave it there.

But they don’t though, that’s why it’s a stupid talking point. Plus there’s a clout and legacy to being the first overall pick in the draft that dudes love. Also these guys are wired differently.

They don’t think oh shyt that’s a bad team I can’t go there, it’s oh shyt imma turn this franchise around and I want the challenge.

People forget that Eli went to a team which was tied for the worst record in the league.

While Elway only managed that shyt cause he was considering baseball (or at least had that leverage).

I don't think it's the player in the NFL other than Elway (Eli was more his pops wanting Eli in NY than in SD)

hoops is another story.

That team was 4 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance, had a much stronger history in both mystique and actual success, and was in New York.

With NIL things are different now. If the Panthers pick #1 OVR this year(highly likely), would you want your son playing for Tepper, one of the worst owners in all of sport?

You can go back to college, get NIL bread, take out insurance against injury and try again in a year

NIL bread is not equal to the contract of the first overall pick in the draft. Baker mayfield made 43 million dollars being the first pick in Cleveland

Honestly they need to. All but a small percentage of QBs are a product of what goes on around them. That savior shyt rarely works out. Peyton and Troy the only #1 pick QBs to win a SB on the squad that drafted them (not counting the guys that forced their way somewhere). May go back 50+ to Bradshaw. If you got leverage or options use it because its your rep and well being on the line.

Eli didn't go to San Diego because they didn't have a history of developing quarterbacks. His dad even called up Ryan Leaf and got the rundown on their whole operation and didn't like what he heard.Elway would have easily been in the MLB.

Too many teams don't have their house in order which is why they have the first pick then drag some young QB in their burning dumpster fire of an organization and expect him to be the savior which is why most will leverage just going back to school now to force teams to either fix problems or draft someone else

How many teams have a “history of developing QBs”? Who did the giants “develop” in the 50 years prior to eli? Phil Simms who was a solid QB?

Plus the staff who “developed” these QBs aren’t here when you get to the team

There’s no evidence of “most” leveraging shyt.

How many players from that superbowl roaster were still there? What about coaches?

4 years is a lifetime in the nfl
