Why do people attempt to be heros and try to save someone from committing suicide?

I don't understand this. If someone is about to jump off a bridge and end it, why does a random observer attempt to stop that person? Why does the random observer feels he/she knows what's better for the person's life than the actual person? I would say it's actually selfish in the sense that the observer wants that person alive when the person clearly doesn't want to be alive. So you attempting to force your will on the person that just want to be at peace.

The person thought about it and made the decision they felt was best for the life. I understand.

RIP to those who have made that choice over the holidays. I wish the best for their families.

Permanent solution to temporary problems. 99% of the time the person trying to to jump of the ledge hasn't sat down and thought about other options or has mental issues that cloud their immediate judgement.

Don't get me wrong, there are some cases where suicide is the right a logical choice for example, if you have a terminal and excruciating ailment or if you are have a terminal mental condition like Alzheimer's or if you are literally being tortured in captivity.

but rarely is suicide the solution for the rest of life's problems.

Beyond this altruistic attempt to stop a suicide by helping a person reason better, there is also a selfish group dynamics aspect. By this I mean it's extremely counter-intuitive to allow members of a cooperative to start deleting themselves when they are needed to take care of parents, take care of their offspring, pay taxes, go to war, tithe, etc. Humanity as a concept only got this far by this level of cooperation.

Cause most people can relate to feeling hopeless and show compassion to those at their lowest

Suicide is never the solution. That's like saying the person is the problem. Their feelings show that they need help, and there's nothing about that to be ashamed of. We all do at times

At the end of the day, we're all on this spinning rock together. Doesn't cost much to at least try to help each other.

If you yourself are struggling with something, it's plenty of us on board willing to listen.

It can be when all other options have been exhausted.
Jesus, dude. You okay? Your post is full of red flags. Have you been contemplating suicide?
I'm ok. Just asking questions.
Because most things and feelings in life are temporary, death is permanent. It’s robbing yourself of the fullness and beauty that life can bring.
"Beauty" and "fullness" of life is not reserved for every single human. Some humans are born with a bad deck and are not meant to experience the "goodness" of life.
They're crying for help, if they were 100% committed on suicide, they would have done it.
but a part if them wants to live if they can be talked out of
Not all the time. Sometimes they are reflecting on their life before they do it.
@Worthless Loser , change your name to Lossless Worther and you'll be good :salute:
I've had a pending name change to Pathetic Failure for a while now. But this is a good idea.
