Yes...and a lot of those countries are paying for it now....when that shyt gets out of hand the government is forced to enact "austerity measures" and the people who are used to living high off the hog start to riot in the streets. It's disgusting.

Actually America is obsessed with the belief that they are entitled to everything without having to work for it.

Yeah but we are fighting for those entitlements when we simply CANNOT afford them. It's not the governments role to raise some hood boogers 8 kids. People need to re-evaluate their lifestyles before asking government to come in and play

austerity measures were the result of the economy crashing not the welfare state in Europe. They were also a mistake.
Iceland did not enact any austerity measures and they have recovered faster than any other country in Europe.
Yes. But those governments would be better equipped to deal with the crash if they weren't giving people all those unnecessary handouts. You don't have to have a degree in economics to understand that nothing in life is free. Assistance is fine, but it should never get the point where people become comfortable in their squalor.

Fair enough, I'll be the first person to say that some people abuse the system and we should be giving irresponsible people an incentive to have kids and not work. But at the same time, you can't justify letting kids go hungry in a rich country just because their parents are irresponsible.
And there are some things that just make more sense for the government to do. Countries that have universal healthcare spend less per person on healthcare than the U.S does. Why? Because people w/o insurance are just going to to go the ER when something is wrong (which is by far the most expensive form of healthcare) and then not pay their bill. Causing your insurance rates to go up.
Yes Mook it is.
Care to show me how it isn't?
Arent they paying taxes every time they get paid, friend?
