No matter what Jay does, people will find shyt to bytch and complain about. The lead single for BP3 was D.O.A. which was grimy, vintage Jay going against the autotune/commercialized movement that was all over radio waves. All you hear is that he's hatin on young cats like T-Pain & Ron Browz. So he releases quality tracks which are mainstream friendly like Run This Town and ESOM. But now he's making 'commercial pop' records :snoop:

Exact same thing can be said to others too.

Like Eminem. Dropped Relapse which was loved by his core fans, the same way AG was to Hov's, and then because it didn't have the wide appeal, he dropped a popcorn album like Recover the same way Hov did with BP3.

It's just the way it goes.

They see me trolling, they hating.....
Jay got the power to drop blue magic type singles every album tho if he wanted to

Jay aint' Michael Jackson and he ain't ur typical Nelly type rapper neither

nikkas check for jay because of lyrics, not because of mainstream melodies and catchy beats n hooks

He doesn't really need to be doing those Forever Young or Ghetto Techo or whatever type garbage at this point in his career IMO

He doesn't need to be trying to get that average radio listener because his LPs are gonna go platinum regardless.

Yes, he has a right to put out commercial garbo if he wants to but does he really want to?

I feel like jays whole commercial career has been one big please, please like me cry.

plus him hoping on every trend and still tryna be "cool" amongst teenagers when he's almost 50 is corny man.

A jay album with primo beats and no commercial type records would sell a million cause its jay

Would everyone at Glastonbury be able to understand it though? And would it sound better than ESOM in a arena of 100k. I saw the big difference when he did the show with Eminem. Eminem was just aight and Jay was :takedat:, as comfortable as if he was performing at the tunnel back when.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Blueprint 3 sold more than American Gangster and it came after. And in today's market usually you sell less as each album drops due to record sales but due to his radio friendly songs such as Empire State of Mind (which I think is his only #1 on the billboard singles) and On to the Next one (crap) he sold more.

The man is tryna sell the Garden and o2 arena constantly, doesn't wanna fall to a venue of 5000.And you might say hey whatever Jay pisses on will be a mill, look at Em, on Recovery that Not Afraid and Rihanna tune did way better than Relapse which as bad. We can agree they are set for life but me being in their position I'd be more satisfied with #1 songs on the billboard doing Call Me Maybe numbers than the money which will always be there.

Me and you obviously haven't felt their type of success but imagine Staples Centre where people know word for word to nikkas in Paris than a venue where only hip hop heads know 22 Twos. There's a point where After money you care just about acheivements and records. Like Jay said "10 #1 albums who better than me? Only the Beatles, nobody ahead of me"

thats whats wrong with music, whatever happened to just making quality music simply for the sake of the artform?

I don't think Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye was thinking about having number 1 singles and setting records when they recorded Songs in the key of life or What's going On. I understand its a business also but it seems rappers nowadays care more about the corporate side than the artistic side, and thats what actually killed hiphop to be honest

No, fans killed hip hop. You'd rather cry and complain about artists that make music that you don't like instead of supporting the people making music that you do like. You guys stopped buying records then you turn around and complain that rappers stopped catering to you. Theres a reason that rappers cater to the pop crowd, they're the ones actually showing support. You keep talking about quality of the art as all that, well quality is subjective. Your tastes or preferences in music don't hold anymore weight than anyone else's. The answer to your thread's question is common sense. Jay Z makes pop records to sell them.
