Some people in Compton sound like they are from AL/GA/NC.
It's from the older generation and it's baked in. Kinda like the early Brooklyn accent has a small influx of southern in it.
A lot of Millenials and early Gen Z were bombarded with Holllywood/LA productions...so the internet and movies influence the general accent along with slang is becoming universal.
Oakland and Detroit got damn near the same accent.
It's all about migration, grandparents, and the internet/media.
