Why didn't The Wire kill the hood movie genre?

That's like asking why To Pimp a Butterfly didn't destroy mumble rap or kill trap music as a sub genre

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You keep mentioning about it being hot in the streets, you think the complex writing was the reason? LMAO There's a reason people keep talking trash about season 2 and 5 even though they were just as rich as the other seasons. Not enough fukkery + urban elements for some tastes. Which means the popularity was due to the fukkery, not just the writing...

Above the fray.
There have been films that have effectively killed genres Wouldn't you say that the parody "Dont Be a Menace Gin in Hood" killed the hollywood backed hood film era?

Wire was such a complex well rounded storyline I didn't think people would want to watch simple cliched hood films again.
This is HORRENDOUSLY flawed reasoning.

The Godfather didn't stop others from making Mafioso movies. The Exorcist didn't stop others from making horror movies.

If anything it just encourages others to mke them.

You're listing Captain Obvious points about the shows ratings that are well documented. For the sake of the topic, they are irrelevant.

You can't dispute that the show was WILDLY popular with the VERY market that hood films were and are marketed to. Decade earlier NY Undercover was WILDLY popular among most Black audiences across age and region demographics. The nielsen numbers gauging all audiences barely registered the show as being viewed. The suits came in and added white characters for ratings and RUINED the show. Not exactly an aberration that a show that's supported by a segment of the audience could be on brink of cancellation.

My question was after the target audience seeing such a complex detailed depiction of crime/politics/law/school/press etc....how and why would they be open to watching low budget one note hood films ?
If it's Captain Obvious points....how are you still missing the point? :gucci:

You keep talking about "'The Wire'" and hood movies got the same core audience"....which is obviously false. Is there some over lap? Yes....but hood movies been around damn near 30+ years and "The Wire" could barely last 5 seasons. So the over lap is obviously very small, to the point of being inconsequential.

Which is why I keep pointing out how unpopular it was in real time. The only way it could maybe do the shyt you're proposing is if it was doing "Game Of Thrones" numbers....and even then, it's doubtful.
