I think it's because she was indie. She signed to Columbia but I think that was just for distribution.

The black community wasn't ready for a half-Black, half-Jewish star until Drake. :heh:

When I use to work on radio during college, I'd play a lot of her stuff during my midday show. I honestly think a lot of those people weren't really trying to become "stars". There's like a whole squad of other neo soul artists like her that pretty much just stayed in their respective lanes. You can be successful without being famous. You can still make money and not go mainstream. Mainstream is really an illusion for the most part anyways. it almost requires you to not have a soul and just play a role

This joint kinda blew in the mainstream for a hot second:

but she never followed up with anything after that and never became relevant in the mainstream.

Her album "Change It All" is one of my personal faves:

Here's her newest joint:

Never thought I would hear Goapele over a trap-inspired beat:snoop:

I love this woman lol! And I always love how she puts on for The Bay. Closer was my shyt of course, change it all did have some cuts on it. One of my favorites is

I don't know nothing about Clyde Carson but he's perfect on the track.

I don't like Keak Da Sneak but he did his thing on this song with her.

Oh and the entire Break of dawn album was underrated even though I think she was trying to cross over. This is one of the sexiest songs of all time!
