One thought is that he might've wanted to change the songs for the album since they had been out a while? Dead Presidents 1 was out on the streets like what? 8 months before the album?
Im guessing this is the answer. they were playing Dead Presidents on the college stations in like 94. Jay prolly liked the beat too much to do away with the whole track

has a lot to do with the ownership and publishing.

Dead Presidents and a bunch of those other songs (in my lifetime, get wit it, foundation, ect.) are not on roc-a-fella .. I think ... When he rerecords them with new words its a new song...

similar to how on the EPMD greatest hits they rerecorded everything that was not released on def jam

that second verse ..... Ive told this before but the one time in my life that I thought I might be going to jail I remember one night playing that song over and over again .... shyt is the truth

it was too street and too hip hop. He needed something more commercial.
