it's not a race thing, it's a location/class thing. inner cities breed gangs. if you go to chicago's inner city, no matter the race, there are gangs. Black neighborhoods have gangs like GD, BDs, and Stones and shyt, hispanic neighborhoods have Latin Kings, Satans Disciples and Familia Stones and shyt, white neighborhoods will have Insane Deuces, Simon City Royals, and Insane Popes and shyt. fact is, when growing up in poverty, people will be unaccustomed to and have a different view of the law and how to progress in society. society was unfair to them, so they will be unfair to society. as long as there are poor people, there will be there will be gangs. and bytching in your comfy little place on a damn forum people at the fact poor people choose to commit crimes*gasp* wont change that.

I can't speak for other cities, but we have all of these in Chicago. The problem is, most of these kids don't want to use these resources, nor do they have the authority figures to make them utilize these resources. Like Lupe said "these black males wouldn't drive if you gave 'em trucks". The resources are there, but some of these dudes in their teens and 20's don't want to use them.
Reading doesn't pay the bills, but I have to imagine its a bit more productive than chillin on a corner or walking around aimlessly

There is a constant debate in hiphop....whether rappers should live their lyrics.Opinions vary, but one thing all folks that participate in that debate agree upon, rap is a form of entertainment. Just like the other forms of entertainment, a lazy thinker will be more susceptible to conditioning, than a person who maintains perspective that this art form is entertainment. And that there's a scumbag in a corporate office that more likely not listen to hiphop, but my fav rapper kisses their azz in order eat. Which counters these jason terminator bourne lifestyles that these rappers' music promote
So it is a two way relationship. A kid trying to idolize a rapper, while ignoring the story of a different rapper either going broke or shot dead for trying to live the lifestyle in their music, is as much to blame as the rapper trying to blur the lines between in booth and out of booth actions
does the media glamorize the rappers who are shot dead while pursuing their rap dreams? these kids see the benefits of the lifestyle because that's what the media they tune into floods them with, I can't blame a kid for not understanding what he's not seeing. these kids aren't necessarily ignoring the rappers who are shot dead, media simply doesn't give it much attention and therefore the kids won't see it unless they're actively looking for it and I can't think of any reason why they'd be searching for rappers who died or went broke.
this art isn't entertainment when the "artists" are intentionally misleading people into believing it's real, and rap is all about who's "real", lets not pretend like people didn't try to get Rick Ross outta here for working as a correctional officer, if it's "just entertainment", it shouldn't matter if he was an ex FBI agent rapping coke tales, after all, it's "just entertainment"
