Why aren't there any Black horror/action/thriller/science-fiction movies?

Aside from the dope attack the block, I'd assume it's probably because we as an audience (in general) aren't interested. But I hate saying that. It seems like the black directors aren't interested in telling those stories and as long as that's the case it will forever be like that. We kinda limit ourselves based on what we assume the audience will want to see.

if i had to guess i would say blacks in position to create such films aren't interested in them and/or don't want to take risk of stepping outside of the box...they would rather stick to what they know and comfortable with(urban comedies, romance, music biopics, hood movies, and slave/civil rights films ,etc) than go against the grain which they know there white backers in Hollywood would probably frown upon and less likely to greenlgiht..plus there is a perception that black audiences only interested in the aforementioned genres of black films and would less likely to support a black scifi or horror film

That's always been my theory. The culture of science fiction (and geekdom) is still very much shunned in the hood. I'll add horror to it, only because while blacks support horror, there is very little support of someone that writes about it. That's never going to change.

I have no idea why there aren't more Action movies though. Hell, there seemed to be more in the 80's. Ninjas need to step outside the box with that line of thinking. Money talks more than anything, so if the $$$ are there, Hollywood will back it.

Exactly. One of my boys refuses to watch anything sci fi because it's not realistic which is the dumbest thing ever but I'm sure he's not the only one who feels that way. And it's not just the hood, even in suburban areas with mostly blacks, that stuff is kinda seen as "kids" movies.

It's like it's wrong to be a black adult and have any sort of imagination or even delve into your imagination. They're taking "real" and "authentic" too literal.

Yup. How dare you not be interested only in things where people are shooting at each other or selling drugs.

That's funny bc nights flock to all those all white lead comic book movies. They ain't doing 600 milli to a billion without some type of black support and wasn't there a study that showed that per capita we spend more on entertainment on some other shyt. I ain't buying it.

i'm not so sure that's accurate considering it's not like we have had anyone to test that theory..it's just presumed a black horror writer wouldn't be successful cause no one has set a precedent and it's so different from the status qou of urban crime novels and black romance stories which dominate black fiction.. i don't think have to be an successful author to write script though.

Which is why I said I hate to say it but I'm also speaking in general not specifics and based on my experiences. Most of my friends are into the comic book stuff but there a few outliers who just aren't. Or they'll just wait till it hits Netflix or home video or just go the illegal route to watch it. And we've always spent the most on entertainment. We're the demo with the most to spend on movies and music etc but then the quesrion becomes what are we spending it on and are we willing to spend it?

But if you buy a comic book, a sci-fi novel, mystery (anything not self-help, hood, bios, smut, religious) and bring it around ninjas, you're greeted with :comeon::what::martin: Even if you're asked what the book is about, you explain it and get :scusthov:. Movies are different, but if it's maligned by blacks in other mediums, that's the reason it really isn't explored in the film world.

Why aren't the actors going out for those roles? It's not because they can't get them; but I think it'll take someone that's IN to do the role to really bring attention to it. Like a real hood-actor to do it....Like Meth. No one will give him a starring role, I don't think but he can be second lead in a sci-fi flick...hell put him next to Will. Why doesn't TP do sci-fi? They say he's a geek, but this mofo rather do Madea Goes to the Mothaland, with all sorts of c00nery going down.
