Why aren't people offended when media calls Obama the first black president?

He is half-white and was raised by his single white mother and grandmother. Shouldn't they get some credit?

He is the first mixed race/mulatto president. We haven't had a black one yet.

the only people I've seen insist on calling him mixed are pretty racially uncomfortable (bordering on racist) type dudes

the basic truism is that pretty much everyone is 'mixed'

but yes his personal history does provide a lens into these issues, a kenyan+white woman is a different background from two AA parents

So he is the 44th mixed president?:youngsabo:

Nothing racially uncomfortable about calling him what he is. He should be proud of it.

If some white guy getting coffee watching the store TV remarks to you, "he's not really black, he's mulatto", you wouldn't get any strange vibe about that? Who the hell says 'mulatto' anymore? lol

well you are 100% correct, and 100% incorrect all at the same time.

whats black in america?
someone who is a decendant of african slaves possibly mixed with some white slave master to boot.

guess what obama is? pure bread black man. white mother from america(european ancestory). and his father is an AFRICAN from africa. and we know exactly where he came from unlike many of us black folks.

So in that regard obama is as black as it gets.

Mulatto could be outdated but it means what it means.

That nikka is black, because if he was robbing someone and a :merchant: saw him they would call the police and say, "a black man was robbing someone" END OF STORY!

So when black folk (mostly women) say "Oh dat girl ain't black she is mixed" even though she is half-black, and we agree, that is OK? But, when it comes to Obama he is our black president. You don't see anything wrong with that?

It seems the definition of what 'black' is varies from person-to-person.
