Oppourtunity cost tho. Its a gamble for every new artist they sign from the mgmt sideYea I work in the industry, that why I can say almost everybody in this shyt has a fukked up contract if they’re in a major label deal.
Some dudes just make so much money they don’t notice it, 10 million dollars sounds like a lot of money until you realize you generated 100million plus for the label.
Mims has done similar:

This App Is Why Mims Is Hot (Again)
You remember Mims, the Washington Heights rapper responsible for 2007 chart topper “This Is Why I’m Hot" and its delectable, tautological refrain: “I’m hot ‘cause I’m fly / You ain’t ‘cause you not.” Now he’s back with an equally compelling product--this time it’s not a song, but an app.www.forbes.com
Mims’ inspiration for the app dates all the way back to the aftermath of “This Is Why I’m Hot.” He and Mendelson say Mims grossed roughly $18 million that year for Capitol, which had paid Mims an advance of $850,000. But after accounting for seven-figure promotional budgets, he recouped only $30,000 or so.
Nah after watching Larussell speak in this video some of these label ppl def doing some sheisty. Sending someone the wrong contract whether intentional or not is whack as fukkThe not reading your contract thing is overblown, the major labels are a cartel, they all give out the same shytty record deals and the only way you can avoid it is if you already generating good income as an artist and don’t really need them.
Whenever a artist comes out complaining about their contract it’s funny to me, because all the other artist know they signed the same fukked up contract for a chance in the music industry, but don’t want the fans to blast them as a dumbass that’s not on top of their business.
that old mixtape circuit that sustained their rebellion is history tho.Texas rappers are very against being signed to record labels.
the only similarity is both are in the tech space but Chamillionaire has already profited millions. That article is about mims trying to launch a product 5 years ago that never popped.Mims has done similar:

That’s a fair assessment. I thought this thread was just about rappers investing in the tech space not necessarily the results. So then what’s op’s expectation here? He’s asking why other rappers “don’t do like Chamillionaire” but doesn’t take into account how difficult it is to even have a successful/profitable tech startup? So how do we know rappers ain’t doing this but we just don’t know because they shyt flopped? Thread sounds like survivorship bias.the only similarity is both are in the tech space but Chamillionaire has already profited millions. "has done similar"
that's like saying me recording a mixtape in my room no one will ever hear is the same achievement level as Nas dropping illmatic, the greatest rap album of all time.

better to talk about tried and proven shyt or you gonna be filtering thru a list of NFT salesmen and so forthThat’s a fair assessment. Here’s another one about Jim Jones and a quarantine studio’s endeavor he was involved with:

Jim Jones Believes His New Software Company Quarantine Studios Is A $1B Idea To Advance Artists' Careers - AfroTech
Jim Jones is a rap veteran who’s continued to drop new music, but also still has his eye on more ways to build his stature when off the mic....afrotech.com
Are we only supposed to talk about the successful shyt because that’s going to be a very short list.
WhatBeing smart with money isn’t something that rappers are known for
This is straight up bullshytI'm talking about the mindset of coming into the game with a plan and using rap money to fund other business endeavors. Most rappers are more like salaried employees than entrepreneurs.
All rappers invest and leverage their fame. To think other wise is just pure hateGreat counter argument![]()
