Why are Tash/The Alkoholiks so underrated?

I still bump Tash “Rap Life” couple times a month. I thought he would’ve blown after that album.

CaTash is one of my favorites. I mention him all of the time throughout threads. His albums are pretty disappointing though. Their group catalog is stellar.

I own and play all of Tha Liks albums. Well, except Firewater. I have no idea what happened to it, but I played Coast II Coast last week, and 21 and Over the week prior.

both him and j ro are dope, definitely slept on when we talk hip hop groups

i remember tash was in the movie rhyme and reason and showed the hip hop way to pass something to your man lol

That Tame One comparison is spot on.

Swift and J-Ro held their own but Tash was definitely the star of the show like Tame was

Idk maybe it’s because Tha Alkaholiks were different than the rappers in the West Coast mainstream. They were like b boys at a time when gangsta rap was popular. And they also came up under King Tee who’s also underrated compared to the NWA family tree like Snoop, DPG, Mack 10, etc

And Tash’s solo album was didn’t live up to a lot of people’s expectations. But it had some joints to me though

same reason why The Pharcyde is. gnagsta rap was prevalent in the west during that time.

luckily for The Pharcyde, cacs and hipsters managed to keep them afloat until the early 2000s

when the liks dropped the make room video .. everybody thought they sounded from NY.. I remember being shocked when I found out they from Oakland.. but the souls of mischief are also from Oakland and they didn't have the same sound and look and the gangsta rap and nwa that was dropping at that time
