You're right in a sense that it's a personnel issue, last year pg was the biggest problem; nobody to create for others or themselves except for Melo, and no spacing on the floor. It didn't get much better when Lin started getting minutes either, because he wasn't too great at running a traditional half court offense and got most of assists from drive and kicks when he wasn't turning the ball over.
Hopefully Kidd still has something in the tank and Felton plays closer to his days in New York than his days in Portland, if they are then we'll get to see Melo coming off more screens and shooting open jumpers ( sort of like he is in these olympics ) and less of Him iso'ing trying to score over double teams while trying to create for others.

Every single team in the NBA has multiple fans exactly like that dude. People pick on the Knicks for the same reason they pick on the Jets and Mets. People hate New York and will take any chance to take shots at anything NY. The Yankees and Giants don't provide those opportunities often, so Knicks, Jets and Mets it is.
