My opinion?
Who knows what motivates American actors over the past generation?
I think it’s quite possible to look at the over top iconic performances of Pacino, Deniro, Denzel etc and become magnetized to the point where some of their best work has gotten reduced to pop culture sound bites. Subsequent generations have grown up idolizing these guys believing the way to get noticed for acting chops is either to undergo some dramatic change in physical appearance (getting super skinny or fat) and delivering these over the top performances in order to stand out. What however ends up happening is they miss out on the millions of ways to show human engagement that can be exciting pieces of art. Everything can’t be a fukking home run and maybe the Brits get that
I dunno
