I'm not tryna hate on J.cole but the conversation needs to be out there cause these young people dont know what the hell "conscious" rap is. These mediocre ass nikkas who aint talkin bout shyt are considered the new conscious... So the standard of what is considered conscious has FELL dramatically.

The days of PE, X Clan and Poor Righteous Teachers is over. Conscious is a label given to any rapper that doesnt solely rap about drugs, murder and sex
That was the 90s when black folks were on that Afrocentric wave, Jay Z and Jaz O were avid Nuwabians and followers of Dr. Malachi Z.York, and A Different World was on TV and black people were attending HBCU'S and repping HBCU culture/fashion. These cats are considered conscious but black consciousness has been killed by the bling/puffy era that put worshipping Eurocentrism (European fashion designers/brands/luxury cars) while promoting the most negative aspects of the black experience to largely white audiences.

The game has gotten so bad that nikkas like J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, and at one point in time Kanye are considered "conscious rappers". Like WTF are these nikkas saying that is conscious? :heh:

These nikkas aint kickin no Esoteric knowledge, these nikkas aint talkin bout no 5% nation shyt, these nikkas aint talkin bout no Kemet/Nubian history, these nikkas aint talkin bout no Marcus Garvey & Black Nationalism shyt, these nikkas aint talkin bout no Malcolm X shyt, these nikkas aint talkin bout no Black Love & the Black Woman is Queen shyt........
:dahell:

J.Cole talks about losing his virginity, and "dont save her she dont wanna be saved" , and because it's not about Trap shyt it's considered "conscious" :heh: What a fukkin Joke.

Let's compare conscious hiphop, to the bullshyt of today.

This needs to change.

Any proof of this? :jbhmm:

conscious rap has been a "full of sh*t" faux title since the mid-late '90s.

just a gimmick for nearly 2 decades now with the exception of a few rappers here-n-there.

Maybe you don't know what conscious rap supposed to be. Conscious rap is bringing forth a message though rap. Nothing more. It was birthed by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's "The Message" in which all they did was rapped about what was going on in the streets.

Conscious rap is NOT JUST POLITICAL RAP. J. Cole never claimed to be a political rapper, or most rappers ever claimed to be political rappers. There was a time where political rappers flourished, such as P.E., Ice Cube, Geto Boys (especially Willie D.), Paris, BDP, Kam, The Coup, Dead Prez, X-Clan and so forth... But there weren't ever confused as so-called "conscious rappers" because they're specific in the brand of rap they were doing, and even with that..... MC's like Ice Cube and Geto Boys rapped a bunch of ignorant rap alongside the political stuff.

J. Cole is not a POLITICAL RAPPER... and never claimed to be one. He's more like 2pac in which he had socially conscious messages in his songs, but also have songs for everyone else.

I DO agree with the concept of conscious rap fell dramatically, because even you cannot fully fathom what defines "conscious rap". And that's mostly because many mainstream rappers aren't conscious rappers. They don't have any messages or voice anything relating to a social climate, or speaking to or for people who can relate or going through situations and need a voice of reason to help them see through things with a perspective. Most rappers today are PARTY RAPPERS... and there's nothing wrong with party rap since that's where EMCEEING began, but when something dominates the hip hop music scene so much, that it blurs the line as to what is conscious and what is purely about bringing forth a message.

J. Cole's latest album is a CONSCIOUS ALBUM that addresses the different levels of fatherhood and the complications of one trying to change transform their life for the better for their child only for that to be taken due to his own karma. It is a message to everyone who have children, who are parents, or the youth who are without their father and need explanation or understanding about the importance of living right for your child and so on.....

The standard for conscious rap should be try to convey a message that people can relate to and react to either emotionally, intelligently, or both. It should be excluded to just rapping about political issues and ideology.

Like I said bruh, all these nikkas talk about is instagram/twitter shyt.... And if you think a nikka is conscious cause he talking about Aiyana Jones (may she rest in peace), then that shows your level of depth. It's understandable the the masses think this is conscious cause the masses are stupid. But it's messed up that hiphop has gotten this low...... What happened to shyt like this?

It aint about being Esoteric.... but hiphop was about the people... BLACK PEOPLE.... We have lost sight of that....I don't blame the rappers, I blame the powers that be that only allow these types of nikkas to get famous. The jews that run the industry will never let a KRS-one, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Public Enemy to gain popularity in this day and age. :snoop:

So a rapper gotta rap bout conscious shyt forever for you to be happy? You a clown.
Go make music and tell me if only being conscious gonna pay the bills

Though I am a fan, I never understood why J Cole was considered conscience I guess it was the way the roc nation machine wanted to brand him to sell.

He's just as misogynistic, calls women bytches and hoes, and brings up guns just as much as the next average rapper with a couple pseudo deep messages thrown in here and there and people eat it up.

Now only if everyone who sees through this veil Cole made with a musical box of chocolates, copy and pasted this all across social media, his stans would back the fukk off.

Friends. Enemies. Religion. Police Brutality. Rape. Molestation. Abandonment. The black community. The government. Deadbeat dads. Women. Kids. Suicide. School system. And the fukkin list goes on. nikkas sound stupid in this thread.
